Manchester City have seen an £18million move for Jonny Evans rejected by West Brom as Pep Guardiola continues his search for a new centre back.

Guardiola wants to add to his central defensive options after deciding to play a back-three system but with Middlesbrough demanding £30m for Ben Gibson, City are looking at less costly alternatives.

Evans, who aids 'home-grown' quotas, has emerged as one possibility and any move would carry an edge due to his long-term association with Manchester United

Solid buy, gives them more options in midfield

Horrible deal for Everton, a total Man City move.

Nope that's trying to buy Evans.

Who will no doubt run them at least 30 million if they set the market paying 50 million for Stones

For real though

Evans has been more consistant at CB the last two years than Stones.

But this shows how much their academy is just for show. Why throw more money at CB again when you have Denayer and Tosin.

I have no clue where people get the thought of Stones being God awful. Last year was rough on him at times, but playing next to Otamendi, Sagna/Kolarov/Clichy/Zaba throughout most of the season didn't help much. He likes to handle the ball and hang out around midfield and distribute in Pep's system and playing alongside a much more aggressive Otamendi left him completely exposed at times, especially since our fullbacks were freaking horrible w/ zero pace to track back.

There were times last year where Stones looked class for us, but just like the rest of our back line, there were also a lot of moments where they looked borderline retarted. Is he a world beater? Far from it, but he's more than serviceable and has looked great in his appearances alongside Kompany since he's been at City.

Tosin isn't ready and is likely to go on loan and Denayer is pretty much out of the first team picture following the spat he had w/ the front office.

Evans, if the deal can be done somewhat reasonably regarding the fee, is not a bad option in the least. It's also being reported that we're trying to not break the bank so the club can save some funds for either M'Bappe (not happening) or Sanchez. Pretty much the domino that's led to this whole saga is Alves going to PSG and the club failing to sign Bonucci. It forced the club into signing only three fullbacks instead of four, since the extra money we would have saved on Alves went to bringing in Danilo and giving up on Ryan Bertrand.

Straight from Sam Lee:

quote:

Everything that transpired in July - the extra money spent on full-backs, the inability to sign Bertrand or Bonucci, and Kolarov's shock decision to leave - has led to City moving for Evans.

Evans would add to the homegrown quota and would be the 4th team CB option since Mangala is leaving.

Last year he was shite, and his last year at Everton he was shite.

Your youth academy is a joke. We been hearing about Denayer for fricking years. Give Tosin a fricking chance, but that's not in your clubs culture.

He will barley play.... and will still cost 30 million. Fabin Delph anyone?

Yup that's exactly why City are interested, just like Delph.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Even if he was shite, I'm not worrying about a 23-year-old defender who made 41 appearances for a club who finished third in the league and in the round of 16 in Europe.

At the moment there isn't much to show. But how long of a period does a club get to instill a solid youth academy in their side? I'd say it's got to be around a good 8-10 years before we start saying whether it's a complete failure or not. Foden is also clearly going to get a look this year.

He'd be our 4th defender. Hmmmm how many CB's did we use against Brighton? He'd be a Kompany injury away from getting steady game time.

Also, why are you comparing Delph in terms of a fee? He was £8 mil

For whatever reason City signed Larry Kayode from Austria Wien and waited what I can only imagine was a whole five minutes to loan him to Girona.

Jesus we give zero fricks.

Give our academy more time or this new kid he's the one. Its a joke.

I didn't say in terms of fee, I said in terms of home grown players. Since City have problems meeting those requirements.

City buys all these players cheap, who will never have a chance to make the team, just to sell them on later hopefully at a profit. So they can generate some funds to buy much more expensive players and comply with FFP.

Why does City's business model bother you so much? Do you really get this upset that another club runs things differently than your favorite club?

I never said it bothers me, some of its actually really smart after FFP came into play.

Its just hilarious watching City fans defend their joke of a youth academy. That's the point of the debate.
