3. Rangers (correct or not) is a symbol of all that is wrong in Sotland/GB.
Any Scott would tell you not to lump the two together. They are about to get their independence, and they absolutely refuse to consider themselves "British" in any way.

Somewhere out there, Aberdeen fans are fapping to the prospect of stealing the next LIAM MILLER out from under Celtic's nose

Although a bit old, the stigma still exists (and much of it still happens):

A bit old? Seriously? That typeset hasn't appeared in a newspaper since the 60s

Here's the Guardian from today:
quote:
Life After Rangers Football (Larf) would mean for every other club a chance that the thousands who migrate towards Ibrox from towns across Scotland every other Saturday might show an interest in their local team. They would have realistic hope of winning trophies. But the positive reality of a Scottish game without Rangers is not primarily about a sport rid of a substantial element of ritualised bigotry and sustained intergenerational hatred, but the prospect of top-quality football being played by young Scotsmen in an atmosphere of optimism. That's something worth aspiring to.
The mainstream press have been fatally blindsided on the impending crisis at Ibrox despite excellent blog coverage. But let's not blame the clubbable journos. The real culprits are the management and board of the club who piled profligacy upon spending spree, from Dick Advocaat's dubious £12m Tore Andre Flo to David Murray's gigantic vanity project. But who'd blame them? Our culture lauds these dodgy geezers. Murray, the club's previous owner, was quoted as saying: "For every £5 Celtic spends I'll spend £10." That doesn't seem so clever now.

If Rangers go under, the SPL won't be worth a damn. Celtic will top the table for a decade before anyone challenges them. Rangers in admin is not good for anyone.

The rest of the SPL disagrees. Which is why the Killie fans are wearing party hats on Saturday.

So basically the SPL is retarded?

How is the SPL/SFA gonna react when Scotland's coefficient drops? Without Rangers we are essentially the Faroe Islands first division.
We will lose a place in Europe, book it.

administration is merely a black eye for the club and a stain for the fans. it only becomes a great concern when the players stop getting paid...THEN shite gets real. keep paying the players and this will be a formality.

Not if the relegation occurs. That'd be two whole seasons away from the top. Not that they wouldn't make it back in two years, but that's two years of greatly reduced revenue and playing in places like Gretna or East Fife.

quote:If anybody has watched SPL the two best travel teams are Rangers and Celtic, we literally bring thousands of supporters where and whenever we play away from Ibrox and Celtic Park, I am just saying some clubs may have come to rely on our supporters ticket money twice or three times a year. If this doesn't effect the bottom line of the entire SFA I don't know what will...

This just in TN Bhoy is an idiot. Celtic and the SPL need Rangers.
Well really it's not that big of news.
Well then again, TN Bhoy ignoring facts in favor of blind bias and unwavering hypocrisy is nothing new.
Keep Calm, and Carry On
ETA: Also, how is it that Rangers fans professing their love for Great Britain or Scotland worse than Parkhead covered in the Irish Republican flag? You think native Scots appreciate their homeland being rejected in favor of a migrant homeland? Sounds a bit like Mexican-Americans (most of whom were born in this country) rooting for El Tri instead of the US National Team, does it not? But aw lord, that situation is different...not really.

The two clubs owe their very size and rich history to the Old Firm rivalry. The teams fed off it, financially, emotionally and competitively. If Rangers were to go out of business, Celtic would inevitably have to downsize. No other club could challenge them in the Scottish Premier League, so there would be no competitive tension. Crowds would fall, budgets would decrease and something unique would be lost.
quote:
Celtic supporters are also capable of causing offence and many of their chants at Easter Road referred to Rangers fans as "Huns", a term that is derogatory and designed to be particularly insulting, although not sectarian. The issues are knotty when two sets of fans are so implacably opposed to each other.
They are united only in the disdain they provoke in other clubs. The rest of Scottish football tends to resent the Old Firm, since the two Glasgow teams monopolise attention. Hibs fans displayed a banner that read: "One Down, One To Go."
Yet the game in Scotland relies on the presence of Rangers and Celtic for its broadcast, commercial and sponsorship income, while the vast away supports provide crucial ticket revenue.
