Im sorry but i completely agree...Howard did NOT play very well in this world cup. The goals today (even the second i think was savable, it went right over him) plus the first goal in the slovenia game were both very savable.

He did nothing really great this entire tournament. He's a hell of a keeper usually but he played nowhere near his usual self. And yes the defense did blow, but still...

Truth hurts I guess. Our defense, INCLUDING Howard, was pathetic this world cup. That is why we are out.

i fricking loooove tim howard. he saved us against england.

however, specifically in the slovenia and ghana games, he did nothing out of the ordinary and some of the goals scored probably could have been saved. he never made goal costing mistakes, but he didnt really make goal saving saves in these games either.

with all that said, i better see timmy in 2014.

Let's look at everything:

England goal: No chance

Made a ton of great saves to preserve the tie.

First Slovenian goal: I don't think he got a clear read on it. Looked like a defender screened it and when he saw it, it was too late. Even if he had saw it right off the strike and dove for it, IDK if he could have saved it.

Second Slovenian goal: No chance

Played well the rest of that match to keep us in it.

Didn't let one up against Algeria. Played well and was the reason we advanced, with his great throw out to Donovan.

First Ghana goal: This was really the only bad goal of the WC he let up, IMO. And it still wasn't a terrible one, like Green's, the Slovenia goal against Algeria, etc, he just probably should have had it.

Second Ghana goal: A lot more difficult than it looked. It's easy to say "just stick your hand up", but based on where he was, where the shot was released from, the pace on it, and it's placement, he really didn't have a shot.

So one "bad" goal in four games. I wouldn't say that means he's overrated, but whatever.

Tim Howard was not the reason we are out. He is great. One bad goal does not make you a bad keeper. Did anyone watch the early match? There was some terrible keeping in that game.

I agree - both of those balls could/should have been saved.

Tough break.

We'll get em next year.

What a lot of these new american soccer fans don't understand, is that unlike hockey, the majority of goals in soccer are NOT the keeper's fault

The OP is right though. Keller saves those balls (or at least one of them) in 2002.

Plus one of the Slovenian goals.

Howard might be a World Class goalie but he didn't make any World Class saves this cup.

Neither did Lloris, Buffon, or Casillas.

the more relevant point is that Keller saves one of the 2 today in his prime.

Try to deny that.

Thank you. Glad I am not the only one that thought that Tim Howard was VERY disappointing. In past world cups, I felt we have such an advantage at keeper that it was the only reason we weren't getting killed. Now that we have a real offense, our keeper is not as good. Frustrating. (and yes, I know that most of the time, the defense is to blame, but the advantage at keeper just wasn't there)

We do not have a real offense, considering all of our goals were scored by midfielders, as opposed to our strikers.
