Decent hire, if he agrees
He's a better tactician than Harry, and has done more with less at places like Fulham and West Brom.

Better hire than Harry IMO. I read Harry's buyout is too much for the FA to stomach.
I wouldn't take the job till after the Euros though. It would be a disaster if he was hired and then England collapsed this summer.
Regardless, I feel sorry for him. If he doesn't have great success, his reign will be tainted with "should have hired Harry."
ETA Plus, Roy has international experience.

Personally, I think anyone who takes this England job is going to have much more leeway in terms of success/failure at this particular tournament. The direction of the English national team is in such a quagmire, and the FA understands that nothing major can be fixed in a month's time.
The FA took way too long to make this hire, which basically means that they'd rather wait on a manager to finish the season, than let Stuart Pearce make the personnel decisions.

I think Roy can have success, but he's going to have to make some difficult decisions. He will not have success until he's rid of the Gerrards, Lampards, Terrys and the like. As long as the players are playing for themselves as individuals, ego will reign, and Roy will be stuck.
Once guys play for themselves as a team, and/or the Three Lions on the front of the shirt, or Woy, himself, then things will change and for the better, in my estimation. The failed Liverpool experiment showed all of this, plus you had Kenny Dalglish as the spectre behind him at Anfield.
Hodgson should be the man until 2014 is over, unless they crash out in spectacular fashion this year and in qualifying.

They gave him a four year deal...
Either the FA is as incompetent as we thought, or they are giving Roy a good bit of leeway for this summer's Euros.
