Here is the team Bruce called in:
GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Atlanta United FC; 15/0), Tim Howard (Colorado Rapids; 37/0), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; 0/0)
DEFENDERS (9): DaMarcus Beasley (Houston Dynamo; 35/6), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City; 12/1), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City/ENG; 24/2), Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca/MEX; 16/0), Michael Orozco (Club Tijuana/MEX; 6/1), Tim Ream (Fulham/ENG; 6/0), Jorge Villafaña (Santos Laguna/MEX; 4/0), DeAndre Yedlin (Newcastle United/ENG; (8/0), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City; 20/3)
MIDFIELDERS (10): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas; 5/0), Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution; 0/0), Paul Arriola (D.C. United; 5/1), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union; 9/0), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC/CAN; 38/7), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City; 6/0), Dax McCarty (Chicago Fire; 0/0), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers; 9/0), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund/GER; 11/5), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy; 4/1)
FORWARDS (4): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC/CAN; 39/16), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders FC; 41/18), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes; 0/0), Bobby Wood (Hamburg/GER; 12/4)
WCQ List
My thoughts are why bring in Wondo? Why not Dwyer. We get Zardes, but not Arriola. No Fabian Johnson?

Arriola is listed in that, like two rows above Gyasi.

No Fabian Johnson
He's played like 100 minutes this season for Gladbach.

I can't wait for about 3 years from now.

Zardes apparently got hurt last night.

You know how I know we don't even want to qualify anymore?
But seriously, good to see Benny called in. And Dom Dwyer thanks for your very brief service.

Some of these selections are just baffling.
Why in hell are we still calling up Rimando? Give that spot to a young guy. Zardes has been terrible all year for the Galaxy, and has done nothing to earn a call-up. He's been so bad at scoring, they literally started him at right back a few games ago to get him away from goal.
As sad as calling up Wondo is, he's actually in better MLS form over the past several weeks than Dwyer and certainly Morris. Hopefully he doesn't see the field. We need to develop some more young forwards, ASAP.
This team needs a complete rebuild after the WC, if we even qualify. It's bad enough watching LSU plummet to a laughing stock after one offseason.

Honest question, are our young guys just not developing at their clubs? I feel like Pulisic and Acosta are like the only two young guys who have broken into the team recently.

Adams is one of the best players for NYRB. Gonzalez starts for the best team in Mexico. Wright is getting some minutes with Sandhausen, but not scoring. McKennie has started the last 3 games for Schalke. Miazga is Vitesse's best CB. Horvath starts for Brugge.
Taitague may get an appearance for Schalke later this season.

Is garza also hurt? I thought Beasley showed last time that he needed to be put out to pasture. Hell, morrow had a hat trick last night, certainly he would be a better option

I can understand a few of those guys not getting the call up yet, but McKennie is someone whose name I've heard for awhile being from Texas.
Pretty crazy he's not really even being mentioned and he's at a huge club. I guess Kljestan was at Anderlecht for forever and hardly got a look though.

I know Bruce said he wasn't bringing any new guys in, but that looks idiotic when you make some of the choices he has. He's called in multiple guys that should never play for us again.

More than Fab has this year and people are asking where he's at.
I get what you're saying and I know I'm overreacting as well

Like I said, I'm overreacting still

It just irks me to see kids like that getting PT at a big time club but being nowhere in the national team picture for the foreseeable future.

What I care about the most is where he deploys pulisic. Stop sticking him on the wing and letting him get crushed

Obviously, but how often do guys make noise this late in the cycle and get in? I feel like it's not a common thing, at least for us. I know Green got into the WC side the last time around after making his first appearance like a couple of months before the team was selected, but that was primarily to get him to file the switch.
It can happen, for sure. I just feel like it's not a common occurrence.

Bring him in sometime in the winter/spring, not when we have 2 must win qualifiers.

Just going through the list and counting how many guys I really trust to perform in these games....the number is not as high as I would like.

Howard
Yedlin-Besler-Cameron-Villafaña
---Bradely---Acosta------
Arriola--Pulisic----Nagbe
-------Altidore---------
I'm concerned about our depth, but this lineup looks feasible. My worry is that Arena plays it conservatively and opts for someone like Bedoya or Nagbe in the middle. Nagbe is much more effective for us when he's deployed higher up the field. He provides cover for Villafaña even when he's used in an advanced position.
Acosta played well at the Azteca. If Arena trusted him in that game, he should be trusted at home against Panama.
