I've not done a draft before so it was interesting to see where certain positions were going. I have played fantasy soccer before and am lucky to have a neighbor show me some sort of strategy a few years ago. Crazy things happen and it will be fun watching this shake out, but if I had to guess, people will take defenders much lower than they were going in our draft. Just for instance, you took Rafael in the 5th round. I took John O'Shea in the 11th. Now let's compare last season. Disclaimer:Obviously things could be vastly different and I don't know what the future will be:

Rafael:Played 2312 minutes, had 3 goals, 5 assists and 8 clean sheets totaling 110 points

John O'Shea: Played 2992 minutes scored 2 goals, 4 assists and had 9 clean sheets for 115 points

One was taken in round 5 and the other in round 11. I may be completely wrong on which pick is more sensible, but I feel much better about O'Shea in the 11th than I would if I took him in the 5th.

I agree there is definitely a risk in my selection. I am hoping that Rafael plays 35 games instead of the 27 or so he played last year. With their being in the CL and now injured, he won't. There was a method to my madness in picking him earlier than last years stats indicated. Also, with Baines and Vertognen (or however it was spelled) selected in round 2, I had Rafael as my third best outside back in terms of offensive potential over a full season.

I'm not trying to say it was a terrible pick, but with defenders it is a lot of guess work IMO. Considering the EPL's best defenders scored 5 goals last season, they just aren't worth high draft picks IMO. Kind of like DEF in fantasy football. Will a great week win a matchup for you? Yes, but at the end of the year were they worth a high pick? I doubt it.

So since the draft is done and we have a week till the first game (and because I'm bored), who do you think drafted the best team (other than yourself)?

Easy ... have you seen Bho's team?

Nope, tell me about them.

ETA:My team will probably start a #BhoOut by the time we hit January.

We need to get working on how we could manage a cup tournament between the leagues.

I don't think it's really that big of deal having the same players used from either league because essentially everyone has different teams still so who cares if you both have RVP ... who else do ya got?

We need to get a season long thread started rather soon.

If you need me to start it I will but rather not.

Also we should still use this thread for the subsequent draft.

As far as scoring is concerend, when will scores be reported? Are we just reporting scores for all games in a week (say every monday morning) or are midweek games considered part of the previous week?

Last year we let the premier league website dictate which games went under each "Week".

There are times where a team will play 2 games on a week and that same team will have 0 games on a different week.

I can't remember for sure, but I think midweek games counted towards the previous week.

You guys do not need to make your season long thread until I make mine. You can basically copy everything.

I found last year that you have to wait about 24 hours or so after the last game of a gameweek is played to tally the scores because the Premier League's Web site uses the bonus scoring and sometimes they take a day or so to post those scores.

Yep. So Tuesday or Wednesday would be the day that scores would be finalized. And typically, midweek games were included with the scores for the prior weekend.

Yep. The typical slate of games is 10 matches from Saturday to Monday. Tuesday is the best day to tally up scores because bonuses have been applied.

Weekly free agency is a first come, first serve. It opens at 8 am CST on Wednesday and closes Friday at 11:59 pm CST. Any player added to the league site from a transfer (basically not available on draft day) is not eligible until after the supplemental draft.

If games are played are unusual days, then I will specify the free agency window.

On the Premier League's fantasy site, below your team, you can click on the game in a gameweek and it will show you each player that scored fantasy points in the game. If the game has no one with bonus points, then you know that bonus points have not yet been added for that game.

vicks can you explain the sub rules?

So we designate 3 subs, then if one of our starters doesnt play do you take the first sub automatically or is it position for position?

ie if I play a 442 and lets say one of my forwards DNP, and my first listed sub is a mid, do I automatically get him (making it a 451) or would I go down the list of 3 until I hit a forward (if I have a forward as one of my 3)

You play the first sub if it leaves an eligible formation. Your formation can change.

As you long have 1-3 FWD, 3-5 MID, and 3-5 DEF starting, then you are fine.

This.

I'll get the bracket set up this week. Hopefully I can find someone to make a custom avatar or sig pic for the winner to display proudly (our "virtual" trophy).

Well since I am very much an amateur at that kind of stuff I'll say we should contact GC to see if he would be willing to apply his talents in creating that for the tournament.

This is different for the weeks where there is a gameweek in the middle of the week, though.

When making the schedule I used to PL fantasy website for the gameweek dates and you can see them here (if you have a team on the actual website) or on the schedule I made for the league... It has all the dates

20 players ... 4 groups of 5, top 2 in each group advance to quarterfinal ... maybe could even do 2-legged ties in the knockout rounds?

Just a thought...
