I half agree with the youth development argument. We have the talent and quality of athlete necessary to play with the best. We don’t have the coaching to organize them and get them to feel pressure early on. Last night was a perfect example of us crumbling under pressure. We are good on the front foot but suck when we have to fight. In every other US sport that’s different. We need to teach the young guys to stare pressure in the face and conquer it.

So the youth football is essentially subsidized in Europe by the FA?
Not essentially. It is.
And everywhere else on the planet basically but here.
It's retarded.
And with the amount of money the MLS is throwing around in their ponzi schemes and all of our shite players, it makes it even more bullshite.
frick it all.

Did not know this.

Some what and the rest comes from transfer fees
Even the local neighborhood youth team gets a cut if their guy makes it pro

Just to play devil's advocate here, wouldn't that be a product of actual interest in the sport at the top level? In England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, etc. soccer is the top professional sport. As much as I would like it to have a bigger following here, it is more than likely 5th. So, we are suggesting that we get rid of pay to play. Where is the incentive? If there is a huge investment in youth soccer, how long does it take until that investment generates revenue?
I had a similar thought in regards to LSU and Alabama. I just think Alabama is always going to be a perennial top team because it means that much more to their fans. It is their everything. So, the investment in making the product better will have a much better return. The incentive is higher.
Hopefully, I'm wrong in regards to there not being an incentive with youth soccer. I would very much like to be.

To play at an elite level in America you need to shell out crazy amounts of money.
No one complains about a $50 league fee but its way more than that at the travel level. League fees, tournament fees, coaches brought in to work with your clubs players.
The USSF makes boat loads of cash, and on top of that makes more from all the parents of kids playing. USSF and MLS with all the money dumped into MLS have failed miserably in youth development. The USSF and MLS relationship is fricking us over.

Yeah, I know that it isn't working in creating better players. If the USSF is already making a boat load of money off the current system as you say, how much more would be made if they took the brunt of the cost for youth soccer? We are asking organizations to make financial investments. The results have to be more than just pride in our national team. There needs to be financial incentive. I hope that the people in charge find that it is worth it to invest, but I just don't know if it is.

I also just found out the other day that the USSF President is an unpaid position. Which seems insane to me. How many potential candidates are we missing out on because there isn't a salary involved?
