With Tottenham signing Paulinho and going after Villa and Betenke the thought is that Dempsey will be marginalized should he remain at Tottenham.
I find that lack of faith disturbing.

They are switching to a 4-3-3 and he's not good enough to start consistently at any position in that formation over the talent they will have.

New owner? He'll be back at Fulhamerica before you know it.

Name all the players they currently have that are better.

I was kind of selling him short. He mainly just doesn't have a good fit and is in positional limbo. They just signed Paulinho and already have Dembele and Sandro.
They obviously have Lennon at RW. If Bale leaves, that would obviously change up stuff.
Eta: He does have a lot of value as a sub IMO. He's not fast enough to be truly dangerous on the wing, and he doesn't have anywhere near enough technical proficiency to be a playmaker. But he is a gritty, versatile midfielder that has great positional awareness and can obviously poach.

I see it a little differently, no disrespect fellow soccerbro.
He of course did not play much on the wing this past season but he played there often at Fulham with a lot of success. Dempsey's passing ability and sets are very much overlooked IMO. I watched most of his games the past two years and he can make a really nice cross and push up through the middle very well. He poached a few for Tottenham but most of Dempsey's goals over the past few years are far from poached...they are driven into the net with skill and tenacity.
IMO he is much more than average on the wing as well as the middle. Tottenham obviously would like to sign another scoring threat with passing ability as they missed on Villa and are after Benteke. If they had signed Villa or do sign Benteke, then the prospects for Dempsey's time diminish. Otherwise, I don't see him being cast aside. And they aren't letting him go for just anything. They are merely exploring options.

Some good points, and I really hope he does well. I'm just concerned he won't get the playing time we will need him to get prior to Brazil.

I agree with your post. I've watched him for a long time also, his passing and vision in the middle of the pitch are criminally underrated imo.
