Blackpool's home match against Premier League leader Manchester United was postponed Friday because of a frozen pitch.

The game, scheduled to be played on Saturday, was called off following an inspection of the playing surface at Bloomfield Road by match referee Peter Walton.

"Mr. Walton expressed concern that the severely affected areas of the playing surface would not thaw sufficiently for the game to be completed," Blackpool said in a statement.

Bloomfield Road doesn't have under-soil heating and stadium staff had been using hot-air blowers to try to thaw the pitch after temperatures in the northwest region dipped below minus 8 degrees Celsius on Thursday night.

United moved to the top of the league last weekend but former leader Chelsea and Arsenal — who are both two points behind — can overtake with wins on Saturday. Chelsea hosts Everton and Arsenal is at home to Fulham.

Blackpool is in 11th place on 19 points.

The match was the first in this weekend's Premier League program to be postponed as a result of the cold snap that has swept through the country over the past week.

All six matches in the Scottish Premier League were called off during the week and a raft of lower-league games in England have also failed to beat the weather.

city v bolton should certainly be interesting. They're a pretty solid all around team this year and elmander has been hot. On the other hand, city's defense has been around the top of the league. It will also be interesting to see any lineup changes following the positive results we have had in the Europa league and fulham.

Chelsea looks much better today. They are controlling the possession and getting some decent chances. Hopefully they bury one soon.

Everton lays 2 different hands on the ball in the box. Neither were Howard's. Wow, Drogba to Anelka and a deflection saves Timmy.

NASRI!!!!

What composure. That was a well taken goal. Getting snubbed by Domenech was the best thing that could happen for his career.

Anelka's strike was just wide and TImmy comes and yells at the defense.

Holy hell, off a corner, Timmy makes a save on Terry's shot, Terry then rattles the crossbar, then Malouda gets a head on it, and it is deflected by last defender. Bury one.......please.

Fulham isn't playing well at all, but this is typical Arsenal. Dominate, but don't take advantage of opportunities. The high line Arsenal plays defensively gives me ulcers. Luckily, Kamara doesn't understand the offsides rule.

And there it is. Horrible defensive play. 1-1. Kamara goal.

Kos took a shot. I don't blame him for stopping play. That was probably at least a mild concussion.
