Just because more people go to Sounders games than Mariners games, or Dynamo games than Rockets games, or Galaxy games than Laker games, doesn't mean soccer is growing in popularity.
Uhhh... considering that the MLS has only been around for 17 years, and the NBA has been around for over 60 years and is considered to be one of America's most popular sports, it kind of does mean that soccer is growing in popularity.

Yeah let me try and find where they keep the TV ratings for illegal immigrants

The places where the sport is growing the most is the Northwest and Northeast. Those areas are not known for their Hispanic populations. In fact, areas more likely inhabited by illegal immigrants have not seen an increase in attendance or TV numbers, like FC Dallas.

Since you seem to be an idiot, let me outline how you would prove something like this. You would take TV numbers from before the recent influx of illegals, say 2000, and compare them to numbers afterward, and see if there was a difference. Otherwise you are blowing hot air.

Hockey is not American. Hockey is not annoying. And Hockey is fairly popular in the U.S. That is because the Canadians and scandanavians do not feel compelled to tell those who do not pay attention to hockey that they are somehow flawed for not paying attention to hockey
Have you ever seen Barry Melrose?

Hockey simply toils away in its own world, appealing to hockey people and minding its own business - as soccer should do.
Hockey has no choice, it is dying.

The vast majority of American sporting fans continually send this message through their indifference to soccer, yet soccer folks still whine and moan about wanting their sport to be loved by all.
We don't care if you like soccer or not, we just laugh at those of you who fight its increasing popularity and the childish whines and fits you throw because of it.

That wouldnt prove anything regarding illegal immigrants. It would simply show the increase in the US.

you do realize that in the next 50 years those legal and illegal latinos will multiply inexorably (unless some radical immigration policy is enforced) thus further evolving U.S. populations.
I ask again why do demographics even matter? The base fact is that popularity is increasing, and media markets will respond.

What exactly are you arguing? That true Americans hate soccer and only illegal immigrants like it? I just don't see what you're arguing here...
I can't understand why people want to bash soccer so much. Like it makes them feel good about themselves to bash a sport. Some people seem to equate the World Cup with UN... but they don't do the same with the Olympics. Just doesn't make sense to me at all.

So stop with your market and media talk.

At that point you could argue the increase would be due to the illegal immigrants. But looking at MLS ratings, they haven't increased by any large margin, still hovering at less than 1.0. So it's doubtful that any of these illegal immigrants are skewing those. And looking at the Telemundo and Univision ratings, Mexico National Team games still attract anywhere from 3.2 to 10.7 million viewers, which supports my original point that these illegal immigrants are more than likely still watching their old country rather than the U.S.

You people are more dense than I thought. If you actually read the posts instead of popping, you will see I said ratings are skewed because of illegal immigrants. Never did I say true americans dont like soccer. Learn to read.

Ok last time I am saying this.
maybe you wouldn't be so frustrated if your point had some relevant poignancy.

The only reason I said anything about demographics is because someone earlier said AMERICANS interest in soccer is increasing.
so basically you're trying to racialize this argument by discounting interested audiences that don't have a visa/green card?

why? those people will have a massive influence on "AMERICANS" whether you like it or not.

Never said they didnt, but there are more than just US games on TV right?

Did I say anything about a Visa or Green card. You do realize you can be an illegal immigrant without those, thus you are not american

But if they are still watching their old country, they aren't really increasing the popularity of soccer in this country, are they?
Leagues like the EPL are more likely to attract English speakers, and those ratings are on par with MLS, on occasion slightly higher. Ratings for La Liga on ESPN are significantly lower.

They are if you are trying to use US TV ratings to prove it. Plus if you are a fan of a sport, most of the time you watch whoever is playing in said sport. I realize people have favorite teams, but just because someone is from England doesnt mean they only watch when England is playing.

Actually, you are defintely an illegal immigrant without those things.

Univision and Telemundo are Spanish-speaking stations. If anything, the ratings I posted show that the vast majority of fans would rather watch Mexico than watch soccer period.

Why aren't legal immigrants a part of your point? They aren't Americans either.
