I want to see a bit more of Gomez. Seemed like he really settled down around the 60' mark. I would think a game against AFC Bournemouth would build some confidence in him.

Love what I saw from Firmino in his short stint. Coutinho was not great most of the game, but dat goal doe!

Still no crosses, but Can in the midfield seemed like it changed our whole dynamic. Milner was everywhere in the last few minutes of the game, and outside of Lovren's goof on a clearance attempt, the back line looked alright.

Hopefully Sakho can come back and get some quality playing time.

Not overly impressed with the cohesion we showed, but the effort is undoubtedly there.

We were so much better when Can came on too allowing Hendo and Milner to push farther forward and help link the midfield to attack.

I really hope Sturridge can stay healthy cause we need someone to help stretch the field. Ibe is still way too raw

Can on (or Lallana off) changed the match completely

As much as Lovren gets bagged on, he wasn't too bad today... I actually thought our back 4 was pretty good for the most part

Lallana was working well as far as effort, but I don't think he has quite what Emre Can has. Can immediately improved distribution and was very crisp with his passes.

Lallana is excellent in the final 3rd. He's just not great in buildup.

Lovren is quite solid today. Hope he keeps it up!

Agreed. I think there is a lot to be excited about after today. Barring injuries, it seems the intent is to play Can as he was today. Hopefully that opens up a lot.

Agree on Lovren. He looked much more confident/relaxed and took charge of balls that hung around our back 3rd like a CB is supposed to do. Finally!! I liked Gomez runs forward and his ability to track back when he got caught too far up field. I liked what he and Clyne did. As much as I loved Coutinhos goal, I wish he would have done more of it! He had 2 other really nice runs up the middle that he could have taken shots on, but looked for help. While I like his willingness to pass, we weren't pushing forward enough as a unit to be looking for an outlet. I feel totally comfortable with him taking shots from distance, and if it happens frequently, so be it. Overall, we started rusty, but started looking a bit better as the match progressed. I'll gladly take the 3 points, but I hope we start pushing the attack more aggressively and frequently in the coming weeks. YNWA!

Not nearly as much to do with Can vs Lallana as it did with changing the shape

We tear Lovren down almost every game, but that means he's due credit when he deserves it. He was absolutely immense today. That performance harkened back memories of his S'hamton days. There's a good player buried deep in there. Hopefully this is finally his coming out party.

I thought lallana was poor. Had no direction whatsoever to his runs. He would lackadaisically get into the final 3rd, then hoof it up top to benteke.

I've been saying it but Can needs to start

I think today showed you were right, I'd much rather see Can than Lallana right now, also think Firmino or Ings should start over Ibe depending on the formation we want to see

We're just not that good in a one striker system. Need someone at least like Firmino who can play right behind the striker to help link up. Benteke still looked way too isolated at times

It was never a game Lallana was going to shine in. We had zero time on the ball and were up against very physical, borderline dirty players. That's Lallana's kryptonite. He's much more suited to an open game against players who rely on their technicality, i.e. Arsenal, Spurs, City, etc.

I blame BR more than Adam for his performance today. It was stupid to start him.

Any team would struggle against Stoke in this system. 1 striker systems rely on midfield help. Every time we booted the ball up to Teke there wasn't a MF within 20 yards. It was idiotic.

Loren was okay.. Hope it's a sign

Can absolutely allowed Milner and Hendo to push forward... Player and shape

I thought he was much better than okay. He won almost every arial duel he had and had some very nice tackles. Also no bonehead mistakes, which is a huge step for any of our CBs.
