Where should I start with a 10 yr old who has only played soccer once but had a great time playing and did well? Are there competitive local leagues or just talent starved rec leagues?

Kind of ignorant on the entire deal and I'm having trouble getting in touch with places because of some dead period or something? I'm so lost.

A rec league should do the trick. Where are you located?

There have to be multiple rec leagues for him to play. I guess keep trying.

Just make sure he's passing to the Italians regardless of where he ends up.

He will be placed on a team out there. I don't think they can announce placement for another week or two. Maybe even longer. State association controls dates.

U10-U13 placement letters go out starting this Friday at noon. Assuming you signed up with an email, you should get one Friday afternoon with his placement. At least that's how BRSC does it, I assume Gonzales Soccer does the same thing.

One thing to keep in mind is that Gonzales is a fairly small club, and tends to only have 1 or 2 teams per age group. Last year they only had 1 team for U11, so it's possible he gets caught up in a numbers game and doesn't get placed.

I live in Dutchtown too, and have a 12 year old daughter who plays. At BRSC, there were 90-100 kids at placement, and they are planning on having 4 U13 teams in the fall, whereas GSC is going to have 1, and not sure if they can field a 2nd.

Driving to Burbank isn't that much further than Lamar Dixon depending on where you live, just something to keep in mind going forward.

bRAC has already had tryouts for that age group, but I think it is a formality. Baton Rouge now runs u10 like their academy program training for the entire age group and separating by skill level. I would contact BRAC for more info.

It depends on the birth year now. Is he 2007 or 2008?

GSC will likely have 2 competitive teams for 2007 this time. Not sure about the numbers that tried out for 2008.

GSC is smaller than BR but it has been growing a lot and has gotten better and better over the last few years with quality of coaches and players.

This is illegal according to state bylaws. I wanted to do this in Lafourche but the state says you can not have a tryout. You can have a developmental team where any kid has to be able to play but no tryouts.

I don't know how it is set up, but this is how it is run. The program has had this format for 3 years now (my son was in this format 3 years ago)

2008. I got exposure to both. Ended up going out to one of the br practices yesterday.

A bigger pool of kids yes but Lamar dixon is much easier for relatives to help with transportation.

Thanks for the responses guys looked like I got him looked at in the nick of time.

Many of the BRSC teams have wrapped up for the year. At my son's Monday night practice, it was at about 25% of what you would have seen 1 month ago...

BRSC also does supplemental player placement in January if he's not able to get on a team this fall.

I watched the 05 BRSC Black team play today and damn they're physical. They play well, but those city boys are gamers.
