MLS: Kirk Urso Died of "A Pre-existing Heart Condition"

Coroner report just released. Just thought I'd share that bit of news to the MLS fans in here.

idk, but my guess is an enlarged heart.

at least he died feeling good. i hate these type of stories

Just started learning about the heart so I skimmed the wiki article. It's genetic, and in simple English (from what I understood), the proteins holding the muscle fibers of the heart together start to degrade and are replaced by fatty fibers that don't work as well, causing arrhythmia and heart failure.
ETA: Harry Pitts is also here studying that medicine stuff. I post a lot more than he does, though. I got another friend I met here (Arsenal fan) to sign up.

interesting. could this have been prevented/delayed by not playing sports?

I'm not sure. Possibly delayed, because I'm sure working out his heart only put more stress on the desmosomes (joints that kept the heart muscle cells together) that were faulty to begin with, causing them to break down quicker. That's just an educated guess- don't quote me on that.

Buddy of mine (otherwise perfectly healthy guy) had a "mini-stroke" when he was 23.
Battery of tests done, turned out he had a Pete Maravich/Reggie Lewis hole in his heart. Doctor told him that the stroke saved his life. Without it, he would have dropped dead before 30.
They cut him open, fixed the hole.... all was/is well.
Crazy shite.

Good thing they found that. Not to burst your bubble Sheep, but Maravich didn't have a hole in his heart (unless it was a patent foramen ovale, which the below picture doesn't mention and is actually present in 25% of the population without much detrimental effect). He had an enlarged heart and a missing left coronary artery.

Wow I just heard about this almost a year later talking to a friend. I played on his team in the 3v3 nationals when we were 11. I can't believe he died so young. RIP Kirk

Talked about pete maravich's death recently. It's crazy that he lived as long as he did and his body just grew a massive right coronary artery to compensate for the lack of a left coronary artery.
