MHSAA limiting club players on high school teams

I don't know what the rule is in other states but I think this is bs
"During the school’s sports seasons an independent team can be made up of no more than 50% of the number that make up the starting number of players for that sport from any one school. The penalty for this violation is the loss of eligibility of all participants from the school that participated on the team. School personnel cannot coach an independent team during the school year. NOTE: Only 4 players per school may participate on a baseball or fast pitch softball team, 2 basketball players, 5 soccer or slow pitch players, etc. Independent teams may participate in summer league post-season play through August." (i.e. independent team ... to include club team, recreational team, select team, elite team, all-star team). Applies to grades nine through twelve during the school year. Note: does not apply to grades seven and eight (grades seven and eight will be under the total control of the administration and coaches of a particular middle school).

There's a similar rule in Alabama, at least this was the case about 7-8 years ago when I was in high school. Retarded rule.

If we want our high school kids, in any sport, to play at a higher level they should be able to play as much as they want for their school or club.

so 6 kids cant play for the same club and high school team? what if you just dont start a kid and sub him in at first dead ball? also, how does this rule make any sense at all?
i think GA's only rule is that you cant coach a player for both high school and club.

Didn't GA also just extend the elite level club (can't remember what it's called) seasons so that the kids on those teams can't play high school?

From my understanding a high school team can only select 5 players that played for a club. The local news interviewed the AD of Tupelo Public Schools and he didn't seem too happy about the rule change either.

How can this possibly be good for the student athletes development in the sport? Competitive balance is one thing but it shouldn't be to the detriment of a players development

In Mississippi the season is only 21 games I believe. Runs from October and January and the finals in February. If you want to play on a higher level you're going to have to play a hell of a lot more games than that.

yeah academy players cant play high school now. shitty move since high school soccer is fun as shite. some seniors with lower level or no schollys (non D1) quit academy in jan/feb and play high school with their friends one last season.

It still exists. I know Auburn High's girls team had their best players move to club teams in Birmingham. Really hurt Auburn's club.

every club in Memphis HEAVILY discourages their players from taking part in highschool soccer.

Just curious, does Tennessee have a rule barring from playing both?

nope.
School coaches can not coach their players on a club team though.

I know playing can be pretty expensive. The Tupelo youth club travels to Memphis and other places 100+ miles away for tournaments.
