The discussion about the handball rule is sort of funny, because it’s always been a mess. Deliberate was never really the gold standard in the 2000s/2010s, otherwise you’d almost never get a handball penalty.
They were much tougher to call pre-VAR, but the overwhelming majority of penalties were given for the hand being in an unnatural position.
Meanwhile, outside the box it’s called every single time. Intentional or not, hand in an unnatural position or not. If a ball touches a player’s hand, it’s a foul.
