can someone explain to me the changes in this year's copa america? in the past, it seems that CONCACAF would only have 2 countries invited. this year, we have 6. are they aiming to turn this tournament into some kind of competition for Euro (obviously in the very slightest)?

i also heard talk that copa america could replace the gold cup, or somehow be merged in some way?

thank you to anyone who helps me understand this!

so what is it then? will it remain this way going forward?

i see this is the first time a country outside of south america has hosted.

i think it would be cool for 12 teams from each federation to be invited, and have some 3rd place group finishers advance to the knockout stage. similar to the euro format.

someone can correct me on this but they had the copa america last year. this year is just the 100th year anniversary so they're having an exhibition copa america.

It did crack me up today when Radja said that Pjanic signing for Juventus has caused him to tell Miralem that he'll never speak to him again.

they did have one last year.

i'm just wondering if there's a chance this format will remain. it's more competitive, and obviously cooler for us because the USA will likely always be involved (either invited or through qualifying) in the future.

i think everyone agrees it's for the better but it's probably a pipedream to think it will continue like this.

They're going to play 3 1-0 games in their group stage and then make a run to the quarters probably
