Sarri's post match rant..

quote:

“It appears this group of players is extremely difficult to motivate,” Sarri said.

“As a group of players they are not particularly aggressive from a mental point of view, they don’t have that kind of ferocity in their mentality and that is something that it down to the type of players they are — their characteristics. That is difficult to change.”

Sarri was far from finished with the outburst that was reminiscent of former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who was fired in 2015 over “palpable discord” with his squad.

“This is not a team that is going to be well known for its battling qualities,” the Italian coach continued.

Chelsea need a complete revamp, on BTsport they made the point that if they aren’t in the running for a title they completely shut down, managers have come and gone but a majority of players have stated the same for some of these yo-yo seasons.

That fits in exactly with what Sarri saying. I also think it was a message to the board that he wants to overhaul the squad further and needs investment.

However he needs a plan B, since the spurs games people have figured Jorginho out and they need to twist instead of sticking. Whether that is moving to a 4-2-3-1 and playing Kante alongside of him or moving on from Hazard as a false 9 - I assume Higuain will fix this. Hazard has even come out and said he prefers playing with Giroud.

This is really my only big gripe with Sarri.

He's playing the most influential player in the world out of position.

i dont really blame sarri for not wanting to completely abandon his philosophy just because Kante is a great destroyer. Chelsea isnt losing games because the midfield is getting overrun, and that was especially not the problem against arsenal.

if anyone is being used incorrectly, its Hazard, but there arent many options because all the eggs were in the Morata basket.

if you play Kante as a regista, thats gonna be a disaster. if you tailor your system to absorb pressure and counter, then you might as well hire mourinho back, or get big sam. but any hope of having Hazard stay is gone.

I get what you're saying. In terms of team success he (probably) is using Kante correctly.

However, from a personal/selfish standpoint, I just miss watching Kante destroy everything in the midfield.

id also argue hes been our best attacking midfielder this year, as well as our best presser. if kovacic had any attacking sense, or barkley a brain, Kante would be more free to sit a little deeper, but hes the only midfielder thats shown to understand how to make properly timed runs. hes just a complete footballer and isnt getting near the credit hes deserved this year, imo.

tho i understand that opinion, like you said, seeing him run along the back four and frick shite up is special.

Sarri has mentioned a midfield pivot and trying out 4231 recently, and that would pretty exciting to see. but that was in the context of "down the road."

Fulham are just so bad that it seems wildly over the top for refs to ignore obvious penalties. We need the help.
