Not bad for being in admin and relegated to the 3rd division only 6 years ago.

Chelsea, I know, have been good spenders and have made returns on pretty much most of the people they've bought and then sold recently.
The reason I asked is because StraightCash was giving the hypothetical about City possibly stopping the way they spend when Mansour gets tired of the club, and I was just curious if that had happened before. I know it happens with small clubs every once in awhile.
I know City hasn't created anybody worth anything really in their youth program, but does the new facilities, playing for a title competing club not give them somewhat of an edge moving forward? I know they have several individuals who were at La Masia for awhile running the place.

You can overtake Swansea and Stoke doing it that way, and kudos to them for doing so.
But you can't be a major player in Europe without splashing the cash at least initially. It just can't be done.

I really don't see any of these kids ever really getting a shot. You can develop all the talent you want. But it takes balls to put them in the first team.

You're avoiding the question
Apologies. The answer is no. Using an initial influx of money to create a vast loan network would be a creative and acceptable use of funds for City.

United class of 92 says hi
Youth products ended United's title drought and 30 year wait to win europe again.

I'm not talking about Manchester freaking United. That should be pretty obvious.

Case and point - Jack Rodwell. Buy them young then destroy their career.

You do realize that "Manchester freaking United" wasn't near the level they've become until that youth class. SAF built the greatest successful run a club has ever had on the basis of that youth class. United have always been successful, but not like the juggernauts of world football they are today until those kids.

So now we're claiming than Manchester United wasn't a big club until SAF
And you say I'm ridiculous.

They were a big club bc they were so well supported but no where near to what they are now
30 years no European cup
25 years no English Championship
even got relegated
We won the odd fa cup here and there

They were third behind Arsenal and Liverpool in terms of First Division titles before SAF. A big club but no where near the level they are now. Same is true of Arsenal before Wenger.

They had the same amount of first division titles as Villa and Sunderland and were two titles BEHIND Everton before SAF. They had a large following but were nowhere near anything like they are now.

Everton had 9. United had 7.
I know. SAF, as much as I hate to say it, is possibly the greatest football mind the Prem has ever seen.

Second largest port in the greatest maritime power in Europe. Most of the spread of the game came out of the Port of Manchester.

Manchester United were always a much much much bigger club that City were pre-buyout. Not even in the same galaxy. To claim that they could have done what ManU did is just ridiculous.
Regardless, it still doesn't answer my question as to why owners should be prevented from spending their own money nor does it answer my question as to where Chelsea would be now if FFP had come around in the late 90's or something.
