I read a pretty good excerpt from Balague on Txiki and his impact on Barcelona (particularly regarding when to shift from the Ronaldinho to Messi era).
EDIT Also saw that Balague's biography on Pep is coming out in the next few weeks. Gonna pick that up.

I dont doubt at all that he's a great coach, but it will be hard to replicate what he did at Barca...

He's not going to run Europe like he did with Barca but I think he's going to do a great job wherever he goes.

Balague tweeted today that if Liverpool or Tottenham wanted him, they could have had him. Both clubs decided not to hire a DOF though.

yeah, I read that this morning... I remember his name being bandied about after Comolli was canned...
It seems every club's hierarchy is different and responsibilities vary... we dont appear to have many layers...

Agreed he will succeed wherever he goes. He has a brilliant football mind. But he did inherit a situation at Barcelona that was 30 years in the making. It will certainly be interesting to see how he does wherever he goes. A club with a great academy like Bayern seems to be a great fit, as would the unlimited budget he could have at City.

He's fairly tactically astute. He did incredibly well to keep Messi ungodly prolific while placing him in different positions while accommodating many different strikers at Barça. He tinkered with Barcelona's formations occasionally to great success.
As stated, he doesn't have his security blankets in Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, nor will he have as forceful of a leader as Puyol.

The reason he had immediate success at Barca was because he was all up in that youth system.
I think Bayern is a good fit because they have a top 3 midfield in the world. Could he make Javi Martinez his Busquets?
Tottenham would be interesting but would they spend enough to get his kind of guys in there?
Liverpool would have been weird, IMO. Too much of an English style, that's changing with BR, but I bet he would have made something work.

Yea Pep had the foresight to move Messi from a wide player and mold him to a #10. He saw his potential and gave him the role where he could express himself.
Like I said, his advantage was that nearly half his squad was homegrown and he was able to shape a few of those players' futures, particularly Busquets and Messi.
That's why I think Bayern would be a good fit. City is clearly putting in the effort to improve the academy, but they are still 10-15 years away from really producing talent.

I was actually talking about Txiki going to LFC or TFC. Pep wouldn't consider either job I don't think.
I think Pep is better for Bayern, and Rafa is better for City. Rafa is great at getting the most out of the players he has, I think he would do well at City. But I know Rafa wants complete control wherever he goes. Who knows how well that would work with Txiki controlling the youth (Rafa's big project when he left LFC - look at the youth he brought in that are coming through into the first team now).
