I've only really followed soccer during the World Cup the last 12 years. I'm wanting more and plan to get into watching the Premier League, maybe La Liga. I know that I should hate Man U because they are evil, but who should I root for? Keep in mind my only allegiance outside of local teams is to the Chicago Cubs.

If you hate United then it's only logical that you should make Liverpool your team.

In all seriousness though, you should just watch a bunch of EPL/La Liga/Bundesliga games and see what teams jump out at you. Something will catch your eye and you'll know when you've found the team thats right for you.

I kind of want the number of Tottenham fans on this board to increase so we can constantly scrap with each other and have embarrassing amounts of e-pride on the line

Yeah I watched the Cup, rooted for the Americans and the teams where I have family roots (Italy, Spain, and Germany.) I was in awe of the Brazilians in 2002.

Tottenham Hotspur is named for a Shakespearean character/ historical figure who supposedly was an ancestor of my favorite novelist, Louisiana's Walker Percy. So that's a cool lame reason for me to pick a team. But I guess I'm looking for someone who should stay in the hunt and be exciting to watch. I respect the San Antonio Spurs but would not want the bulk of my time watching the NBA to be spent on them.

Tottenham play a good style that is more entertaining than the majority of the Premiership. The top teams usually play the better/more pleasing styles so you should be alright there.

Find a team where you like their players and style of play. Then find a team where you respect their team's history/management/fans and also just like the vibe and swag of the team. Find the team that has the best mix of both of those and that should be your team.

Spurs will be in champions league this year so that'll be fun (they're in the playoff round but i'm sure they make it through). As far as how long they keep their run going in the top four is yet to be seen though. I'm one who thinks they're on the up and up though so Tottenham would be a great choice in my opinion(other than Liverpool).

I essentially did this last year. Don't pick a team before you've watched some games. Get to know the teams, players, coaches, rivalries & playing styles first -- then it's an easy choice!

in the meantime I'm sure youtube has plenty of cool 09/10 highlight clips with house remixes as backing music. you can get a good idea for team chemistry and each team's best goalscorers

for instance here is an Arsenal reel: LINK

(this vid kinda pisses all over the "Arsenal passes into the back of the net" cliche.)

After watching that I am pumped. That last goal was Cesc's second in like twenty-five seconds.

Please stay Cesc, pretty please.

me too. there's a friendly vs. Barnet this weekend and I hope there's a decent stream of it somewhere that's pirated from ArsenalTV. LINK Looks like we'll get to see Chamakh and Laurent.

One month till our opening match with Livarpewl.
And two weeks till the Emirates Cup (v. Celtic & AC Milan)

Which players did you like the most in the WC?

Start with those teams.

If this talk of Forlan to Spurs go through, I'm probably going to jump on that ship.
