I'm just going to use Atlanta as an example, since I'm more familiar with their roster than any other team. Players with a base salary of <100k in 2018: Mikey Ambrose (68.9k) George Bello (67.5k) Andrew Carleton (75k) Jon Gallagher (67.5k) Julian Gressel (92.5k, and about to get a raise) Chris Goslin (80k) Mitch Hildebrandt (67.5k) Alec Kann (94k) Lagos Kunga (54.5k) Patrick Okonkwo (54.5k) Oliver Shannon (54.5k) Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu (55.7k) Romario Williams (71.5k) Gordon Wild (90k)
So your squad players make League One wages if that
which is around 72k pounds or $92k

So, not too bad.

Where the average MLS salary sits compared to Europe 6. Turkey - $864,053 7. Belgium - $402,941 8. MLS - $375,257 9. Portugal - $357,540 10. Switzerland - $324,020 11. Netherlands - $323,488 12. Austria - $233,110 13. Scotland - $231,891
So the MLS average is around the Championship

Considering that most of those guys play in the 2nd division in the US, yeah.

so are they squad players or reserves
Posted on 1/16/19 at 11:50 am to StraightCashHomey21
A little of both? I just listed the guys with an MLS contract. Many of them regularly play in USL, but the USL team often practices with the first team. There's a lot of fluidity.

Bello made 67.5k this year and was our #4 or #5 LB. I'd say he was a reserve until we were decimated by injuries.
Posted on 1/16/19 at 12:22 pm to pvilleguru
How much should your 16 year old 5th choice LB be making?
Posted on 1/16/19 at 1:21 pm to pvilleguru
Looking at the average of MLS contracts is kind of silly.

I’m not happy with how this team came to exist, but at least it didn’t kill the Crew. I think the team will be a huge success, in spite of Precourt.
Precourt is a snake, but he’ll probably sell the team once the new TV deal is negotiated in 2022. He doesn’t have the money to keep up with where this league is going. Since he bought the Crew for $35 million and would sell the Austin team for at least $300 million (and probably much more than that), I’d say he made out pretty well.
We’ll get to see if Precourt is truly incompetent or if he can actually run a team well when he isn’t deliberately trying to sandbag them.
I just hope Austin getting a team doesn’t doom San Antonio’s chances of getting one. They can easily support a team, too, and there would only be the Spurs to compete with.

I think it will be a fail
MLS can't make a dent in major markets like Dallas or Houston which are soccer hot beds. The announcement party yesterday was barley attendant in comparison to Miami.
Like you mentioned before they have a snake for an owner who has no idea what he is doing.
San Antonio should have been the selected, they did everything right. Established fan base, SSS that could expand for the MLS.
But Garber doesn't care about that despite the claims they do. All he care about is the franchise fees so the league can portray the image it is making money when in truth MLS is not profitable.

truth be told the austin bold are getting a stadium next to cota and co-promotion with circuit of the americas (cota). i think they are in a great position to be successful. it is in del valle where a large % of the hispanic population lives.
they start the usl in march. in the future i may have to wear austin bold fc stuff to the austin fc games and start fights.

I think the Texas teams’ struggles are easily explained.
Dallas plays in Frisco, which is way too far north for most people in Dallas-FTW to even consider going to games. And they do a horrible job of marketing the team. They’ll start selling out soon because Frisco is growing like crazy, but they’ll remain irrelevant in the Dallas sportscape until they move closer to Arlington.
Houston used to be really popular and sellout their 22K seat stadium. Their new ownership group is just terrible and cheap. Just look at the players they sign as DPs. It’s a joke. Their stadium is great. With more ambitious ownership, they would be a huge team. They can easily turn things around like DC United.
The only complete shitshow organization MLS has right now is the Chicago Fire. They just need to blow it up and start over. And I disagree with your point that Don Garber only cares about money for expansion. If that were the case, Detroit would have a team right now. Their ownership group is worth billions, but he wasn’t satisfied with their stadium plans. Money is a huge factor, but far from the only one. Cincinnati and Minnesota aren’t exactly rich teams, but they’re in the league because of their great fan support and success in the lower leagues.

true, but the austin bold fc tickets are fairly cheap. the co-sponsorship with cota is something that not a lot of mls teams have.
i think the new england team is the kraft family
new york has a red bull backing
looks like the LA galaxy is some billionaire
-maybe not a lot of others do? i dont know all about it
they (austin usl team) seem better positioned to sustain a team than the precourt team imo. im not sure what precourts backing will be?
