Torres is a pretty small guy (Probably like 5'5 120lbs), if he'd been force fed HGH for the majority of his teenage years, how would he compare to Leo Messi?

HGH didn't give Messi immaculate ball skills.

Never said that, just asking how a US player would compare to Messi, if he'd been afforded the same oppurtunity.

That oppurtunity being, chemically altering one's body for improved athletic performance.

No question Messi is EXTREMELY skilled, but a huge part of his game is his strength, speed, and stamina.

He used HGH for its original intended purpose.

Here are the potential (EDIT) causes for children with growth hormone deficiency.

quote:

Growth hormone deficiency in childhood commonly has no identifiable cause (idiopathic), and adult-onset GHD is commonly due to pituitary tumours and their treatment or to cranial irradiation.[6] A more full list of causes includes:
mutations of specific genes (e.g., GHRHR, GH1)
congenital diseases such as
Prader-Willi syndrome, Turner syndrome,[2] or short stature homeobox gene (SHOX) deficiency[7]
congenital malformations involving the pituitary (e.g., septo-optic dysplasia, posterior pituitary ectopia)
chronic renal insufficiency[8]
some infants who are small for gestational age
intracranial tumors in or near the sella turcica, especially craniopharyngioma
damage to the pituitary from radiation therapy to the head (e.g. for leukemia or brain tumors), from surgery, from trauma, or from intracranial disease (e.g. hydrocephalus)
autoimmune inflammation (hypophysitis)
ischemic or hemorrhagic infarction from low blood pressure (Sheehan syndrome) or hemorrhage pituitary apoplexy

HGH doesn't effect speed of thought. This is what sets messi apart IMO.

and the insane ball control. His very low center of gravity helps quite a bit as well.

Of course.

I'm just saying Messi isn't the best best player in the world because of his athleticism. The guy is a genius and his speed of thought, creativity and situational awareness is off the charts.

Most definitely. His decision making is superb.

It's a little similar to Barry Bonds IMO. Obviously, Messi used them for what we'd consider a "good" purpose, but it probably helped him more than it did Bonds as it kept him as a fully functioning human being.

This is without going into all the studies done which have been inconclusive as to whether HGH or steroids effect athletic performance...

Clearly, Messi's abilities are directly related to his dominant physical stature.

Paco did have that one nice free kick against Slovenia that almost went in, so I see your point.

The only things keeping Torres from doing this and this are supplemental hormones.

Though Jed is obviously trolling, i'm curious, does everyone (besides Jed) think performance enhancing and medical reasons are mutually exclusive?
