Very bad news on the day the #USMNT January Camp roster will be released: Univision report Jonathan González has decided to play for #Mexico and he'll be called up for their January 31st friendly. He has to file a one-time switch with FIFA. #ElTri

quote:

According to the Univision article, Jonathan González's parents always wanted him to play for #Mexico. The 18 year old #Rayados midfielder was convinced by talking with Dennis te Kloese (who visited his house) and Juan Carlos Osorio. Big miss for #USMNT and U.S. Soccer.

Don't blame him. He's got a lot of talent, and FMF isn't nearly as much of a disaster as the USSF right now.

But FTGE. They should've sent Saban or Kirby to seal the deal.

Probably not, considering this dude plays midfield.

That sucks, but if there's one position where we can afford to lose someone, it's CM.

I mean, someone needs to tell me what I need to be hopeful for in the future of the USMNT besides Christian Pulisic (who is not going to play in the World Cup for the first few years of his prime).

McKennie and Gonzalez would have been an awesome future at CM

What the fricking frick. What kind of commitment did this kid have to his home country if not getting called up for a November friendly and then some El Tri overtures is enough to get you to switch?

This is worse than Rossi choosing Italy. The dude doesn't want to ride on a sinking ship

We're still pretty deep at CM when it comes to guys in his age bracket.

Still got Acosta, Adams, McKennie, and Parks that will fight for 2 positions, and of course there will be others that will pop up down the line.

Also got some guys like Chris Durkin who are on the verge of breaking into the professional game.

and he will probably be better than all of them

he's already killing it in Mexico, him and McKennie would be a deadly midfield combo.

He's probably pissed he saw all the other guys not as good as him getting called up, like he was just forgotten.
