I doubt it.
I'd say many/most recreational adult players I play with/against are still rocking the one pieces. I'm sure they aren't setting their kids up with nicer stuff - unless the kid specifically requests it.
Of course, I probably don't scope out as much youth soccer as some here.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

He's right. Hardly anyone uses those RoboCop guards anymore, regardless of age or level of play. The really little ones sometimes do but even then not usually.
Slip in guards are usually cheaper, too.

No but seriously, everyone just buys the small guards once soccer starts to get a little serious. No one is using those connected guards anymore. They sell cheap pairs, $10 or so.

Best Sellers on the Dick's Sporting Goods website are about 50/50 for one piece / two piece, so I'm probably not too far off base.

My guess is if your child is playing middle school soccer, your first inclination is not to drop $60+ on some sweet Mercurial guards.

Uhh those mercurial guards are $20, not $60. The Nike J-Guard is probably the second most popular guards for all ages and theyre $10.

I will just jump in and say nobody I ever played with past the age of 12 or so wore a one-piece guard. But I think a lot of younger kids do wear the full one-piece because it's safer. And I used to sometimes buy the one-piece and just cut the ankle guard off, so price not really an issue there.
