If anyone's interested. A few notable changes for handballs, goal kicks, drop balls, carding coaches, substitutions, etc.

Goes into effect June 1, 2019.

They’ve been booking coaches in tGOATpionship this season. Funny as hell when the ref shows them a yellow.

The New Sub Law is gonna piss some people off ... esp those who like to use those 90+ min subs of players coming from opposite side of pitch to kill time

quote:

When there is a ‘wall’ of three or more defenders, the attackers are not allowed within 1m (1 yd) of the wall; an attacker less than 1m (1yd) from the ‘wall’ when the kick is taken will be penalised with an indirect free kick

This will get rid of the shoving of the wall crap which I think is good

I like the goal kick being able to be played within the penalty area.

This is really going to confuse the stupid build-out line for u10 games. The referees already frick it up.

I really like this one.
"If the referee is about to issue a YC/RC but the non-offending team takes the free kick quickly and creates a goal-scoring opportunity, the referee can delay the YC/RC until the next stoppage if the offending team was not distracted by the referee"

Wish they would have done something about time wasting though. Giving a guy a yellow card for time wasting, thereby wasting more time, always seemed a bit counter-intuitive.

It doesn't take much time to show a yellow for time wasting. You can show the card and write the info down before the ball can even be put back into play almost every time.

True, but I think there's better ways to deal with it.

I like Mark Clattenburg's idea: if you are deemed to be time wasting on a throw-in, the throw-in is then given to the other team.
Same for a goal-kick, except the other team would get a corner.

Most player's are fine with picking up a yellow to waste a few seconds, but I dont think anyone would risk giving the other team possession over a few seconds.

Edit: That idea wouldn't work.

Why not?

Instead of giving a yellow to the time wasting player, you simply give possession to the other team.

I wasn't talking about your idea. I suggested a different solution, but found a lot of loopholes upon further thought.

A spokesman for PRO said MLS won't implement these rule changes until the start of the 2020 season.
