Ozil could probably play striker nearly on par with many big name strikers.

Müller can also play as a forward. Podolski is a forward, not a midfielder. That's just where Löw listed him.

They simply have all the players that will play "second striker" like Muller etc listed with the "midfielders" when you would usually see some of them listed with "forwards".

All of Schurrle, Muller and Podolski would more normally be listed with "forwards" based on where they actually play.
By this logic, Cassano and Giovinco would be listed as midfielders for the Italian NT and Pedro as a MF for Spain.

I didn't think Gundogan would make the squad. I'm glad Caucau didn't make it. Schürrle is probably the third striker if needed.

Germany will have an interesting problem at the back. Schmelzer is a natural left back, but Lahm plays better at LB than at RB. They don't have a natural right back other than Lahm, though Badstuber can play LB and Boateng can play RB. It will be interesting to see who they play. Hummels should be an automatic starter, as he's awesome at passing out of the back.

Me too. However, a good portion of blame he's taking for those 5 goals the Swiss netted can be placed on Hummels/Schmelzers awful positioning and the first I recall resulting from a really dangerous giveaway by Gotze.
Of course, if there's any real weakness with Germany it's that the central defense has been shaky. Hummels may still be the one that teams with Badstuber but his positional awareness outside of the comfort zone of Dortmund has seemed really poor.
Boateng may move in but I'm not too sold on him being any better than Hummels.
Germany may well need all the goals their talented attack can muster if their opponents finish chances decently.

This is true but he also seems as brash as David Luiz about getting caught out of position. He was almost as much to blame as Per for the Swiss cheese defense this past friendly.

I completely agree that he'll be a great player; it's just that the value of experience at CB is so amplified.
I've argued with Roma fans all season to be patient with Kjaer for the similar reasons but that's not to say that Kjaer, for all his obvious talent, isn't a disaster waiting to happen against a wily, veteran striker.
