I am good at fantasy sports. The logic of soccer is sometimes thrown out the window in fantasy.
Is it my pick?

No, it's Bobloblaw's pick. You're after him though.

I have watched Gerrard for years. Last season was a complete anomaly. It was his best season in 5 years, along with the most minutes he has played since the early 00's. He's a 33 year old player playing deep in the midfield now. His 10/12 from last season will drop. He will get points, but he's a third round player and nothing more.
He dropped from 159 points in 09/10 to 88 in 10/11 just like that. And then to 75 points in 11/12.
Don't judge last season in a vacuum. Look at him in the context of his career.

Wilfried Bony, FWD, Swansea City

Shouldn't be a problem anymore.
ETA: Vicks is on the clock.

He has warranted a top 20 pick in five of the last seven years. He has scored at least 200 in two seasons (elite first round pick material).
You are the one not looking at his last seven years. He is a great fantasy player.
Obviously, he runs a higher risk of injury with his age, but questions of age is the most overrated thing in fantasy sports.
Go with proven commodities. People getting all the time going for the next big thing.

Dammit. Bony was my pick.

Put me in a Jesus Navas.
MID Man City.

Because he is Steven Gerrard - one of the best attacking midfielders in English history. He is no longer Steven Gerrard the attacking midfielder.

He plays an entirely different position
You can't take either of those years into consideration when drafting him. He was playing as a second striker back then alongside one of the best pure scorers the league has ever seen. He now plays as a DLP.

Once again, he plays a different position now than he did. I am looking at his career in context. He is my favorite player of all time, but he is a 33 year old DLP in a possession system. His job is to keep the ball moving and spread it to the wings. The majority of his points will come from entirely different areas than it used to: high minutes and defensive bonuses.

now that is a value pick

Well done, beast. Couldn't agree more with any of that. At this point, it's hard to expect much production from him (other than PKs). Although he is still a great player, his legacy and reputation make him a bit of a sucker pick. I am surprised he fell to round 3 though.

He's a solid 3rd round pick, but his name does suggest a second round pick. I'm surprised someone less familiar with LFC didn't take him then.
Even Coutinho has taken over the corner kick role from him for the most part.

He was the 11th rated player last year.
How far is he dropping back from this past season?

As far back as you drop when you move from an attacking role to a (more or less) defensive role.

Round 3 - 30th Pick
Special Olympique de Gonzales select F Rickie Lambert, Southampton
Round 4 - 31st Pick
Special Olympique de Gonzales select GK Joe Hart, Manchester City

Its not a bad pick. You'll get 3-4 points a game from him almost guaranteed. He's not going to rake in big goals/assists though. The meat of his value will be in clean sheet points and bonus awards.
