I returned to my bandwagoning HSV save last week, and I am close to starting my third season (currently managing Portugal in the World Cup as a side project). First season I came in fourth in the Bundesliga while winning the DFB Pokal. Injury bug hit me big time at the beginning of season two, causing early exits in the Champions League (freaking Barca) and the Pokal. However, I managed to scrape together some wins in the second half of the season and took advantage of Bayern's taxing Champions League and Pokal runs to win the league.

I'm currently trying to build some squad depth for HSV in my third season. Looking for some young players that aren't too expensive but have great potential for growth.

Who have you found success with in your virtual managing exploits? (Heck, I'll throw FM into the discussion, too.) Who are some guys that have become ridiculous under your guidance?

Here's my starting XI. Defense would probably be my area of need first, but I need depth everywhere.

4-3-3 False 9
Adler; Diekmeier, Mancienne, Westermann, Jensen; Nigel de Jong, Adrien, Badlej; Biabiany, van der Vaart, Son

Here are some guys I've found success with in my careers with QPR, Atletico and Roma on FIFA 13:

- Seydou Doumbia (ST from CSKA Moscow)
This dude can do it all. Within a few games, he progresses to the gold "Complete Forward" ability. Strong and fast, Doumbia has great dribbling skills and can finish from anywhere. In my AS Roma game, I eventually got him up to a 89.

- Adem Ljajic (CF/Winger from Fiorentina)
Picked Ljalic up as a backup for VDV in my HSV save. He started at a 75, didn't get a ton of playing time behind Jovetic at Fiorentina. A season later, the guy is at an 82. Amazing dribbler, decent speed, outstanding playmaker with his passing. When the injury bug hit my club, he was playing everywhere up front.

- Brek Shea (Winger from Stoke City)
I usually go out and get a couple of MLSers in my saves just because I like the league so much. Osvaldo Alonso, Steve Zakuani, Sean Johnson, Luis Gil, and Omar Gonzalez are just a few players I've gotten in my other saves. However, in my QPR super club, I eventually got Brek to be in the mid 80s...backing up my wingers and central midfield. He just handles the ball so well after a few years. 'Murica.

- Diego Alves (GK from Valencia)
Another QPR freak pickup. I like acrobatic goalkeepers, and Alves eventually was a 92 at the position with 97 in reaction and 98 in diving. If you're at a big club and need a new goalkeeper, splash the cash on him.

- Jonathan Biabiany (RM from Parma)
I've now used Biabiany in three of my saves. The guy has led the league twice in assists at HSV and just won the Golden Boot (he actually stayed healthy). Eventually tops out at 98 in speed and acceleration with good ball control. Beat the marker and take off. Cheaper version of Theo Walcott. Pretty good crosser of the ball and can hit some missiles.

- Ciaran Clark (CB from Aston Villa)
Poached Clark from Aston Villa after they went down in my first season with QPR. He eventually became one of the Top 5 defenders in the world. Standing tackle rating skyrockets and becomes an aerial threat.

- Steven Zuber (LM from Grasshopper)
Atletico signing that became my greatest project ever. Signed him for cheap at a 67. When I finally put down my Atletico save after seven seasons, he was a 89. Athletic with great ball control and a powerful shot.

Have you made sure to get all double 5* scouts?

This also helps because all my talent comes through the youth squad ranks and then just let them play when you can.

The start with lower stats but I swear they play better than those stats indicate.

Came in here to post about Doumbia. In my Tottenham career mode I think he cost me around $20 mill and is now valued upwards of $40-$50 mill.

Since he was taken I'll also had I have enjoyed playing with Honda. Wicked free kicks and good speed/dribbling. Cost about same as Doumbia.

I get this but if you are playing the manager mode and you are in for the long haul then I would suggest trying to find these scout ... JMO opinion though.

This allows you to develop the younger talent and focus you time & $$$ to your more polished/established players that you know can come in and do work.

I play with a weird formation.

Don't play as often as I used too (and still on FM11) In my Celtic game, I use a 1-3-2-4: 1 CB, 3 DM, 2 Wide Midfielders, and 4 Forwards/Strikers (Two on the Wing) domestically and a 3-2-2-3 in European competitions: 3 CB, 2 DM, 2 Wide Midfielders, and 3 Strikers (No Wingers). I've got all my sliders turned way up (for a very attacking mindset).

I play with ZERO fullbacks.

After 31 years at Celtic, I've 30 SPL titles and 7 CL titles.

I'm on like my 10th season with Crewe Alexandra on FIFA12. I've won the Champions League twice now

Anyway, some guys that have made big impacts throughout the years:

- Hong Chul, LB, South Korea
- Abdul Razack Traore, LW - fast as shite
- Moussa Sissoko - CM (of recent Newcastle fame)
- Guido Marilungo, CF, Atalanta
- Libor Kozak, ST

Now I also have Scott Sinclair, Garreth Bale, Jack Wilshere and Steven Caulker. Team is pretty sick.

--------------Wilshere-------------
Bale----------------------Sinclair
--------------Sissoko------------
Chul----Caulker----Hong Jeong Ho----Kyle Walker

Bale

Is divine on this game.

I saw a challenge the other day where the goal is to eventually buy Messi from Barcelona. Win, make money, save money, have a little luck...thinking about trying that.

zhano ananidze from spartak moscow. costs about €9.
alexandre merkel from genoa. costs about €10.
Nathan Aké from chelsea. costs €2.

3 pretty cheap guys that are all at least 85 (merkel is 87) in my 4th season.

My starting line up in year four of my LFC CM:
4-2-3-1 Wide

Ter Stegen - 84
Danilo - 84
Coates - 84
Agger - 87
Enrique - 84
Witzel - 87
Pogba - 85
Zaha - 84
Sterling - 84
Thiago - 87
Suarez - 91

Won the CL last season, still haven't won the league yet

I had 95 points in league last season and came in 2nd (Citeh had 102)

ETA: Suarez is a fricking monster now. Can score from anywhere inside 40 yards, dribble past anyone and is quick enough to get a good jump on most defenders. Only weakness is in the air
