One year until the world's best take to the stage and put on for their respective countries. It's never too early to get excited and I know everyone is on such a high because of the yanks' recent success too.

Feel free to share your favorite world cup moments. I'm taking this one:

To think that the team that looked so good tonight still has one more year to get better (hopefully) before hitting the world's stage...that's great news for USMNT fans.

And even if we don't do as well as we think we should in the next 13 or so months, WE'LL STILL HAVE THE GREATEST SPORTING EVENT ON EARTH TO ENJOY.

ETA: Oh, am I supposed to share a favorite World Cup moment? Gotta go with my second-favorite country's biggest moment...

"It's Tshabalala...GOAL BAFANA BAFANA...GOAL FOR SOUTH AFRICA...GOAL FOR ALL OF AFRICA..."

Still get chills watching this. I went berserk when it happened. LINK

Landon's goal

Mathis goal

Eddie to Landon

McBride

Edu's that was called back. Even non-soccer folks took note.

It's going to be an exciting with it being Landon's (most likely) last WC.

this. and realistically it'll be the last WC to feature for guys like Deuce, Jones, Dolo, EJ, Herc... they'll all be mid 30's or older by the next go around.. enjoy em now

I remember that absolute rocket.

Seems like a recall a stunning goal be Bergkamp in the '94 world cup. Perhaps it was '98. Too tired to research tonight.

It will certainly mark the end of an era in U.S. soccer at least from my perspective. I started really following soccer during the last world cup so all these players are guys I'm familiar with and really associate with the USMNT.

Confed Cup kicks off this weekend too. I hate seeing Mexico there instead of us but it's a nice little preview for next summer.

I can't even imagine being at the world cup and watching your country score the game winner. I would have probably thrown the camera in celebration

I believe I really started paying attention to our national team around the 1998 WC in France (I was 10). I remember we laid a give egg. Didn't we lose to Iraq or Iran? I consider this WC to be the end of the second generation of players since I've started watching.

I remember watching the 98 cup final on a small tv in my grandfather's workshop while making my pinewood derby car. I remember my dad waking me up extremely early each morning in 02 to watch us beat Portugal and Mexico (dos a cero) and lose a heartbreaker to Germany. I remember McBride saying, "frick my bloody face, I do what I want", and the Mathis mohawk. I remember the getting a result against Italy in 06 while playing a man down all game. I remember the 1-1 win against the English, and my coworkers' faces when I yelled after hearing Donovan scored in extra time.

Next June can't get here soon enough.
