I believe FIFA was able to rectify this due to a violation of VAR protocol. Slow motion use of video to make a call per VAR is not part of VAR protocol. And that’s exactly how this happened in the first place.

I think they were able to prove the ref broke FIFA’s protocol on red card (must be live play, not freeze frame) he never called a foul, went to VAR, freeze framed it in slo mo, called a red… that’s not the protocol.
