Why does soccer allow this? It looks sometimes like the ref has no control over the game. Is that normal or just a Copa America thing? I ask that as I thought I read the Euro’s have a rule that only the captain can speak to the ref which seems much better.

I just hate the crowding around the ref while he there is a VAR review and wondered if that is normal. Thoughts?

Way more common in the Americas compared to Europe but it definitely happens both places. Personally I think they need to continue to be strict and start handing out yellows if it happens.

Agreed. Just a bad look.

In Central/South America it’s looked at as part of the game and is seen in a positive light.

I still hate it.

Compared to 20 years ago players are unhinged. They've let dissent get completely out of hand. The captain rule will become mainstream soon

I hope so, but I wonder if it will take a player being violent on a ref to be the catalyst. Doubt it would ever happen in a big game but a rivalry game in a lower league could boil over.

Doesn't play well to an American audience. That's part of the NBA's problem right now – viewers find all of the whining and crying to the refs as annoying and off-putting.
