Can PSG make a CL run over next few years?

No doubt about it.

Which makes me wonder...are there any stars left in Serie A? Outside of Pirlo and Cavani (who won't be at Napoli for much longer), what is the league transforming into? Serious question. I don't know much about Serie A. Are they all just slashing wages?

It's mainly that AC Milan and Inter have been trying to cut salaries and rebuild more with youth than in the past. PSG has really become a "Serie A-north" side in this regard in picking up mainly the huge Serie A salaries that would have been bound to one of the two Milan giants until the past 2 years.


Juve has thrown their cash toward trying to field the Italian National Team but also has their share of expensive players like Vucinic, Isla and Vidal thrown in.

Roma, while never having the "star" power of those clubs has also been clearing out better known players with an toward youth and avoiding the big name "star" signings that have not worked out so well since the days of Battistuta, Cafu etc. . .

I think the league has looked a bit toward Bundesliga in terms of finances and that's why you're seeing some teams being built without huge veteran salaries like all the German clubs aside from Bayern do.


It's really hard to see where the league is headed in the next ten years since the new big clubs in Europe are mainly Russian/Arab owned with Barca and Real benefitting from the skewed revenue sharing in La Liga. Serie A is all Italian aside from Roma which seems to be using an Arsenal etc as example.

However, that it's still the league of choice for young Argentinians and equal to any for Brazilians, along with very good squad type Italian talent that keeps the mid to lower table clubs as good as any other league's in the world. But, right now, there's no club willing to pay that many €10+/yr type salaries if these players move to an absolute elite level.

Yeah, they've had way too many aging players on huge salaries like Seedorf, Nesta, Gattuso etc . . .

I take Belusconi's comments with a grain of salt and mainly as a warning to fans to not expect all the money freed up to go right back into signing a lot of expensive players this summer. However, I don't think for a second that they're not going to be spending on "star" players in the near future, though maybe with a bit more focus on players in their early 20s than high priced 29 year olds.


I think the Silva/Ibra to PSG deal wasn't because Milan was actively seeking to unload either but more that the €170 million or so they make/save was just too much to turn down.

I think you could almost say the same for Inter in that they seemed to try one more "infusion" of high salary players like Forlan last year but now seem set on letting the high priced guys like Lucio, Maicon, Julio Cesar, Stankovic go and rebuilding.

But, yeah, while neither club may be signing any €12 million a year salaries, they'll both bring in a lot of good players in the near future.

In fact, I'd be shocked if they both aren't trying to outbid AS Roma for Mattia Destro and Angelo Ogbonna this afternoon.
