not familiar with them, but
they won League 2 last season, and lead League 1 this season (and are currently 6 points clear of having to be in the playoffs)
was there some kind of cash or owner infusion?

They have outstanding facilities which is a big draw for players. They actually get to use the England national team training ground every day. They also had a great manager with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank who is now at QPR. He got them promoted and left them in a great position in league one when he left.
