Bradley/J.Jones Idea...

I think we should switch Jermaine and Bradley in our formation. For one, i think Bradley does better coming from deep, in a holding position. I think a lot of his issues so far come from him getting the ball higher up and feeling less comfortable. Also JJ has been pushing up more and looked good doing it. Additionally, if Altidore misses more games, i actually like what ive seen from JJ to hold up play with his back to the goal. and i think he's the only other player on our team with the physical presence to do it. Thoughts?

I actually thought about that during the match today when it had basically happened on the field. I'm actually not opposed to it happening during the run of play as it did today, but I still think that the formation set as it is probably works best. However, as the game progresses, I definitely think switching for periods of play is a good idea.

Bradley is definitely better coming from deep. I'm mixed on Jones going forward though.

There have been plenty of stretches of play the past 3 games where jones pushes forward and MB stays back.
Its not like these player roles are static. Jones seems to have been given the green light. its not a formation issue, its just that neither is 10.

We´d get shredded were play to come the other way suddenly, with JJ too far up.
Bradley, while very astute and strong in game knowledge, isn´t physically capable of getting ´stuck in´, as you´ve got to get there, to do so.
Not at this level, any way.

Along with Jones and Beckerman both being better tacklers than Bradley, I think swinging the formation actually negates JJ going forward. Why? Well, Bradley playing the more advanced role makes him a focus for defenders. They know to track and account for him. Jones finds space by making runs into space created by shifts to cover Dempsey, Bradley, and the wide players. If JJ and MB swap, it tactically negates the reason for the swap somewhat.
Even though I like the idea (and have spent quite a bit of time trying to make it work), I think the current setup is best. And yes, I know positions aren't static. However, as a defensive mid, Jones is responsible to make sure someone covers for him while he attacks (normally Bradley).
