Arsenal haven't had a top 5 GK in the EPL since Seaman.

Lehmann was definitely top five. He was just insane.

Even though I know Chamakh isn't black, I can't stop picturing him as a bald black guy.

he has terrible hair

like an electrocuted lemur doused in grease and thrown atop his head.

he'd serve himself well to be a bald black man.

Yeah, I think I saw him and thought with that kind of name he should be black, it was only natural to wish he was bald with that hair. It's weird that I now know of two people named Marouane.

I disagree, maybe the '05-'06 season but that was most impressive because of his Champions League streak. Cech, van der Saar, Given, and Reina were better for sure, and I'm sure there was at least one another. Regardless, the point is it's been too long.

Fabianski, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Clichy, Frimpong, Rosicky, Nasri, Walcott, Wilshere, Chamakh

starting in the friendly against Legia Warsaw, who are putting on a superb atmosphere in their new stadium

Fabianksi is starting at Anfield. I think we just have to accept that. Wenger once again disappoints with signings. I'm resigned to the fact we aren't signing a GK and whatever CB we get won't be a game changer. Alas, another season in the bottom half of the top four...

there seems to be a lot of conviction that we're prodding at a Reina bid. god that would be awesome if we got him. don't think anyone would mind if we broke bank to make that acquisition

oh my frick, I'm dreading our game against Liverpool right now

3-0 Legia Warsaw

:*(

eta: heeeey! there go. chamakh puts away a nice header from a casual nasri lob

3-1

now it's 3-2 off an Eboue header around the 52nd minute. it's at least encouraging we've put in 2 off the head.

tears turned into a stoic outlook :|

3-3
eboue in the 60th with the double! legia frickup in the back, eboue finds the ball off the right corner of the 18, tentatively dribbles at the GK then blasts it past him.

stoicism transforming into bemused cynicism.

4-3 Arsenal
Legia totally breaking down now. Gibbs takes down a cross and smashes it from about 15 yards out from the left.

around the 70th minute now. eboue is looking lively, attacking from both the right and left. intrigued to see if he can steadily improve his worth again this season. he's come a long way in the last 3 or so seasons.

chamakh subbed in the 72nd for JET. efficient performance and a goal. definitely pleased with him so far. he will very dependable this season, imo. smart player, calming presence.

4-4 ugly defense rears its head again. flick on from a poor clearance sends Legia player through, Sczszcszcszcszency with not a lot of time to react

5-4 JET takes a Vela(?) flickon, bodies off the defender and slots it in the far corner from about 7 yards out

6-4 Nasri on a free kick from ~20 yards out that shouldn't have gone in. But because Legias GK production is so poor (Fabianski also a Legia product), it slips under GKs diving body

6-5 are you fricking kidding me

and that's game. not a whole lot of positive to take away. just two teams with horrendous defending. although I will applaud our ability to turn it on in the second half when we we're already down by a couple of goals.

4-4. Thanks Arsene for buying an unknown CB, letting 3 CBs go, and buying no GKs.

Yours truly,
Disappointed Arsenal Fan

Reina is a pipe dream imo. Word is his camp is floating the rumor, and that he would gladly join us, but it ain't happenin'. And the rumor that it'd be for 23 mil is the second most ridiculous one I've heard this summer. (First being anything with "34 mil rated Gai Assulin" as the opening line)

Koscielny could be a good one for the future, but it's unreasonable to think he'll come in and succeed this season. We need to sign an experienced CB. Jagielka would have been awesome.

6-4. At least we'll win.

6-5 Final. Pretty ridiculous.

ETA: Hopefully giving up 5 goals convinces Wenger to sign a quality CB and GK.

If we don't sign an experienced, talented CB, 5th is the best we'll do in the Premier League.

I fo sho agree with this, in fact I have been saying/hoping it came to fruition for weeks now. I sadly will admit to agreeing with you once again, on your previous statement about finishing in the latter 2 of the big 4.

It really does all come down to Wenger being.... I honestly don't know how to term it any longer. You can't say frugal, because they have finally allowed the debt from building the stadium to fade away, and he has plenty of funding. I really love the man as a manager, but he just HAS to freaking spend more. Especially when you have two glaring needs!

very disappointed at arsenal's official website using the same media methods to dislodge or influence a player's decision to leave a club. here's an article where sagna talks how emir spahic would be a good fit. double starndards...
