Arshavin still has a tidy sum of stats even though he hasn't been very sharp. something like 5 goals and 6 assists (too lazy to verify, but it's close to that). I like how he always goes for the backheel. At this point he does it so much that I wonder if that's a technical strategy imparted by Wenger? Or is he just trying to be (ray hudson voice) magic!

I wouldn't mind seeing him coming on as a sub. in the 60-70th. It would be pretty sweet to see he and Theo come on at the same time. Their speed would be hell for tired defenders.

Wilshere completed 74 passes today and had a 96% success rate

It's too bad his partnership with Cesc will be put on hold for 3 games. That is going to be beautiful to watch for the rest of the year. His tackling has been worrisome lately though. Needs to rein it in a bit. Can't complain too much though, he's been fantastic, as has Nasri.

Chamakh has been a brilliant signing and also became the first player to ever score in 6 consecutive CL matches.

Big time game Sunday. Hope we can get a win.

nice, I had a hard time studying anyone because of the dodgy-ness of trying to watch it at work. just had a look at his goal that I missed and it was excellent.

Yeah, that does suck, but I think Cesc being back is a much, much bigger lift for us rather than JW's absence being a hindrance, so I still feel pretty good about this weekend. I hope our away fans whip coins and other small, dense objects Adebayor's way if he sees the field.

So who would you guys rather have in the middle, Wilshere or a healthy Rambo?

Well being realistic/pessimistic, the best case scenario imo is allowing Ramsey to slowly recover this year, get some matches under his belt, and then take over for Cesc when Barca buy him in the summer. So I guess I'd say both? Haha.

I sure hope Ramsey has a Diaby-like recovery rather than an Eduardo-like recovery. Would be a damn shame if he never fulfilled his potential. He's fantastic.

A midfield of a healthy Rambo and Wilshere would be jizz worthy. They compliment each other perfectly. Ramsey is always looking for the final ball in a way that's similar to Cesc, but can also possess it in a way that's similar to Nasri. His workrate was tremendous for those few games he started toward the middle of the season. I hope to god he comes back healthy. And I agree. Ramsey is Cesc's long-term replacement, while Wilshere is a better option deep in midfield than Denilson, though I'm positive Wilshere can play Cesc's role as well.

Its hard for me to judge which one is better because of Rambo's lengthy absence, but I can't remember him having a run of games as good as Jack's had lately. And that said I'm incredibly partial to Rambo due to my Welsh heritage haha. Can't wait to watch them play together. Could be scary good for years to come.

Also saw something on optajoe saying 1 goal in our last 12 games has come from outside the box which would be Cesc's freak goal against Sunderland. Interesting stat and fairly indicative of how we like to pass it into the net.

Few tidbits:

Arsene says we have money to spend in January. Realistic option: CB Fantasy Option: Wayne Rooney

He also says he hopes Fabregas stays for a few more years.

Vermaelen out for awhile. Still no word on a return date.

Ramsey never got the run of starts that Jack has. I also think they are different types of playmakers who would actually compliment each other quite well. I'd really like to see both fit and healthy. It might be a year or two before Aaron is truly ready to play at a high level though.

JET's hattrick against West Ham reserves. Kind of a long clip. First goal around 4:30 mark. Second around 6:10. Third around 8:10

is Fabianski assenting to his original potential?. Doubtful, but there havent been any gaffes at least.

Piece on AA23's website.

quote:

Question: Andrey, are you frightened of bears?

Arshavin: On the contrary, I like bears.

Thoughts on the game tomorrow? Since Wilshere isn't playing, I'd like to see Nasri assert more dominance. I feel so relieved with Cesc back.

This fixture has had very mixed results in the past 8 or so ties. It's always tough to feel certain one way or the other. I don't feel comfortable enough to have our CB's defend Tevez, and now that Wilshere isn't playing, I wonder who will be the deep midfielder helping snub out Tevez & Silva's runs? Song has been much higher. Will he be dropped back? Will Denilson see time?

Should we start AA23? Would you like to see Beowulf or Theo come on as a sub if it's tied in the 70th?

Arshavin mimicking ole Fyodor...kinda.

Question: Hi. I am 25 years old and I'm still not married. My parents are very upset about this. They say I can end up a spinster. But I don't want to get married yet. What shall I do?
Arshavin: I think I can help you. Step 1: You need to find a scruffy heavy drinker. Step 2: Once you've found him, try to persuade him to "marry" you. I think that for a small amount of money, he will agree to fulfil the role of your fiancé. Final: Bring this guy home. Tell your parents he'll live with you. I think next time they will think better before forcing their opinion on you.

Awesome.

Well how can you not be pleased with that result? It looked like that a man advantage was going to do us no good just like our opening stalemate vs. Liverpoool. And who drew it? Chamakh of course. Even after the first goal there was a great uncertainty, but I think the halftime whistle did us a lot of good. Coming back the crowd didnt get back into it and Song, Cesc, and the other with yellow were cool and composed to not press their challenges.

Arshavin, shitty again, but he assisted the opener.

Song had a great performance despite his sloppy challenging in the 1st.

Chamakh had a slightly above average performance. He should have finished that lay off that Cesc made a beautiful run in producing.

Defense was okay. They got bodied off much too easily for my liking by Richards, Tevez, etc. But they made clearances and Fabianski had an entirely efficient display between the sticks.

BEOWULF

Pleased with Nasri and glad he bowed up like I hoped he would today. I was anticipating him getting a few shots on goal from distance, but he was blocked off every time he stuttered his feet to rip one. Also why not give him a go at #1 PK taker...

...or was Cesc's block just the brilliance of Hart? Cesc looked pretty good otherwise, but he was one of the ones that frustrated me when no one would fricking shoot.

Perhaps the most potent sweetener to the match was Cuntebayor lacking any sort of impression on the match, and any chances he did have were about as worrisome as ... uuuhhh...as... ...finish the metaphor... uh... something not worrisome at all?

Great result.

Poor PK from Cesc he gave away where he was putting it and didn't particularly strike it well. That said great from Hart to recognize and control it. Is that 3 PKs wasted so far this year?

Nasri has been brilliant this year. Arshavin...not so much...Gave the ball away too many times today. Great assist though. How long has it been since he has done something truly spectacular? Seems like when he came it was once every three games or so, but I can't remember the last time he's done something that had my jaw on the floor.

Great game from Fab. Love having him back. His through ball to Chamakh that got the red card was perfect. Also, Denilson did his job well.

Djourou and Squillaci still worry me but....dare I say it....Fabianski....has......looked....good lately. knocks furiously on wood That's all I'll say about that.

Also, how De Jong escaped that game without a yellow is beyond me. A couple of his challenges were ones that we got booked for...Do refs not realize who he is or something?

Nasri has been playing insanely well. He seems to be adapting to playing the wider role very well.

Will Arshavin ever gain full match fitness. He always seems out of it. He does drop into pockets of space really well, working the defensive line horizontally.

That was a terrible PK in my opinion. And we have to stop trying to get the perfect goal. The lack of shooting frustrates the frick out of me.

Our defense is still shaky, but Fabianski is playing much better as of late.

Denilson was alright today, but I still prefer Wilshere there.

Song has to improve his long range passing. Since we are playing without a dedicated holding player, Song's technical abilities are being called into question. As a DM, he is awesome, but I'm still not sold on him as a B2B player.

He's finding ways to assist, but I do think it's time to take him out of the primary rotation.

Could just be a communication issue since our CB combos have never remained consistent. I'm hoping that with a little time they will gel, but it's hard to have too much faith in Djourou's ability.

Very good win for Arsenal. I've gotten used to them losing these type of games. The kids are finally growing up

That's true, he gets good defensive marks this time around. You can't say that he isn't putting in a good work rate. He doesn't seem to have any burst right now. Remember how he'd take on defenders, nudging the ball quickly around to find an opening and then surge to play an assist or have a shot? Where has his killer instinct gone??

Denilson was alright today

Someone subscribing to ZonalMarking's dogma would call his performance brilliant: pinging passes out of congestion and being astute defensively.

Well, today he was fantastic box-to-box, but in general he hasn't thrived as one.

Refs just need to prospectively give him a yellow before every game starts.

Seriously, Fabianski was man of the match. Had 3 or 4 key saves that changed the outcome of the game.
