some trivia via OPTA:
Q: Who are the 15 players (more than any other side) to score hat tricks for Arsenal in the Premiere League?

A: Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Overmars, Henry, Parlour, Kanu, Campbell, Wright, Pennant, Pires, Wiltord, Anelka, Arshavin, Adebayor, Walcott

quote:

Incredible stat from @guardian_sport chalboards- in 2 prem games, Vermaelen has attempted 69 passes which have all been successful.

Reports coming out that Sevilla and Arsenal have agreed to terms (~5.3 million pounds) for Squillaci and a medical is all that's required.

I like it. Song looked pretty good back there on Saturday IMO.

yeah, he wasn't called upon much, but I'm at least comforted knowing Arsene has equipped him to be a CB if needed

No doubt. And he definately provides solid linking with the midfield.

Any word on a keeper? Am I guessing right in that it will be Schwarzer probably just before the transfer window closes?

So I guess I should give up on Wenger buying a proven stud center half then?

rumors that Schwarzer failed his medical b/c of a knee, but no one has confirmed that yet. Maarten Stekelenburg of Ajax and Holland NT fame is now being frequently rotated in Arsenal rumors.

very possible. wenger himself admitted that things will likely happen in rapid succession towards the end (which is in ab a week's time, I believe)

the problem is what stud is available for cheap? it's not within our financial plan to pry an internationally capped, experienced CB for more than 20 million. I think we will be okay with Squillaci and maybe one more CB addition. He's at least been capped by France, has La Liga and Champion's League experience, is tall, good in the air, etc.

It's been him, Schwarzer, and for a spell the Italian who replaced Buffon at the WC, until his club attached a ludicrous price tag.

Bendtner fires Danish specialist, defaults to Arsenal medical staff, says he will return to training in 6 weeks. Get well soon you beautiful bastard.

Rumors swirling about acquiring another CB, Ciani from Bordeaux or Juan from Roma. If we somehow got Juan that would be fantastic. He'd be a lock to start and has great experience at every level. However there is no momentum behind either claim at the moment. Nothing new on Schwarzer.

Wenger optimistic over tactical variety and Maroune's cohesiveness going forward:
quote:

"I believe Chamakh is a player who adapts still to our style but if you look at the impact he has on the game; he got the penalty, he got the sending off, he got the goal and he was involved in the goal last week.

"He is an efficient player and he has still to adapt to our style. But I am very confident that when you see the header today his goals can be vital in big games.

"Both Robin and Marouane can play together but that will be a 4-4-2. We'll see, it depends a little bit, one can play on the flank and come in, but at the moment we have plenty of choice going forward – touch wood."

speaking of which, RvP will likely be making his 200th appearance for the gunners this weekend

fun fact: Tomas Rosicky has created more scoring opportunities for team-mates than any other Arsenal player so far this season (6). [via @orbinho]

I like Rosicky in the distributive role this season. He looks confident again, something we haven't seen from him since 2007. Besides Walcott he was our best player against Blackpool.

I'm excited to see Ros, Shavin, Nasri, and Cesc all at Mid. Some exciting stuff.

Would have Theo and Chamakh coming on as subs for the wingers or RVP.

All that would be left of course would be solid center half and keeper play lol. Ughhhh when will Wenger quiet my worries.

Please Schwarzer and Juan get ur asses over to N London.

Chamakh

Chamakh is a target forward and doesn't have the pace or touch for the wing. I honesty think Nicky B is a better option than Chamakh as our replacement striker for whenever RVP inevitably gets injured.

I was just going by the latest article where Wenger stated he'd try to play him and RVP together just not a 4-4-2

Chamakh has displayed pretty good touch in his short time at Arsenal (preseason and the first 2 matches) and though I think he's fairly fast, particularly for someone his size, he certainly doesn't have typical winger speed. That said neither does Arshavin or Vela or Nasri, etc. who will be playing or have played outside for us the past few years...

I think his link-up play and aerial advantage will keep him in the lineup even if RvP gets hurt. He certainly looks a classier player to me. He did have a Bendtner-esque miss though against Blackpool. If RvP goes out, I'd love to see Chamakh up top with Fabregas or Arshavin playing right off him in the hole. With the way our midfielders get forward, he'd be the perfect 4-5-1 striker. Holds up the ball well, distributes well, and wins headers. I'm a fan.

Arshavin or Vela

Arshavin and Vela are pretty fast. Arshavin on his fourth goal at Anfield in 2008 was flying. And Vela is the second or third fastest player on our team, behind Walcott and Traore.

I hope we sign Ciani too as rumored. Still fairly young and a real up and comer. Rather sign a GK though.

Love the group Arsenal were drawn in. Us and Barca by far have the easiest group. Sentimental reunion against Eduardo kind of sucks, but it will be cool to see him get a big ovation at the Emirates. Journeying to Eastern Europe is never fun, and generally bad news for Arsenal, but I think we'll be alright.
