A couple injuries and some questionable personnel decisions have robbed us of the 22-23 offensive game plan.

Now teams just sit back and watch us ping the ball around the pitch because we want to “control” games.

Just try some different shite, it’s all anyone is asking for

2 more games before the real thing. Getting excited about it. Couldn't care less about preseason tbh. It really is just fitness and trying new things, although Arsenal didn't try much of anything today lol.

Eze. Please come to us.

yeah, im not going to get all bent out of shape over pre season.

It was nice to see Mosquera and Gyokeres get some minutes. Also, a few players like White got a full 90 under their belt. He's most likely going to start the season.

And that goal they scored might happen max 1 time during a season. Might even be a foul.

I hope things change, I just don’t have a lot of faith.

We’ll gladly eat crow if we do something different against United in GW1

Simple switch from 433 to 4231 would work wonders. I really don’t see a need for Dec to be one of our highest players on the left side. He should be sitting around the 18-20 yd mark pinging passes across to Saka and through Martinelli who has a LB overlapping or give him the freedom to shoot. He’s just not effective playing him as high up.

As discussed in another thread Martinelli is part of the problem

Not sure what his value is currently but if he doesn’t find his old form of 2022 in the first part of the season then he needs sit the bench…i truly hope he’s on a short leash

high motor just not technically gifted to be a starter on a big club

After further review Richarlson does in fact step on the back of MLS' heel that trips him and leads to the goal.

And on Martinelli. Our fanbase is just lowering his value by going all over the internet today saying how bad he is.

Who is going to buy him and for what price if he truly is a shite player?

He’s not shite, he’s just not a touchline winger, and that’s what he’s been since the 22-23 season. It’s no coincidence that his numbers have fallen off from then. He also doesn’t have Xhaka & Zinny playing him through or Tierney overlapping to draw defenders. Dec is a fantastic box to box midfielder, he’s just not the guy to maximize Martinelli’s skill set

His best trait is running in behind and we constantly ask him to receive the ball at his feet and fight through double teams. He needs someone to overlap him so he can play as an inside forward

Someone posted all of our counter attacks from last season and honestly our problem wasn’t our wingers.

It’s Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard not getting in the box.

There were times even Sterling was on a break away and not a single one of them get into the box and we lose the ball because there is no one to pass to or no one else there to finish off the move.

Same thing happened with Trossard, martinelli and Saka. If our wingers get free and look up and no one is running into the box they may just kick it off the opponent for a corner.

The central players need to do better.

I would like for us to change formation. Have overlapping fullbacks and get our wingers more inside.

Park Declan and Zubi in front if the defense and buy Eze to play the 10.

Agree

I think the other players not getting back is being coached. That way if you don’t score or get a corner, we’re ready for the other team to counter attack back. They need to be allowed to run up and down the pitch with no abandon

I mean what’s the point of buying Eze to isolate him off the left wing?

Just swapping him for martinelli isn’t going to change the central players being too slow.

My hope with Eze is Martinelli stays as LW, Eze L8, Declan R8, Zubi at 6

That gives Martinelli a playmaker to play 1 2s with and Dec and over/underlap Saka on the right.

That means less Odegaard, which I’m not sure if Arteta would do that or not

Or Eze as a loan 10 with Rice/Zubi playing a double pivot

More proof that we are judged just completely different than others. On social media we are getting shite on for losing a fricking preseason game?

I'm not talking regular piss taking. I'm talking Gyokeres is dog shite, bottlers, 2nd rate cuz Isak wants Liverpool and not is, blah blah.

Some people just take this too seriously I guess

Our fans can be really bad. Writing us off before we play a game. I just wanted to see more creativity from the midfield. And for someone to take risks.

We were really just few goals away from turning some of those draws into wins and being tied with Liverpool on points last season.

We had a 1-1 and a 0-0 vs Everton.

0-0 vs Forest

1-1 vs Fulham

1-1 vs Brentford

0-1 vs west ham

That’s the league rt there.

Look at the passing Dec can do, absolutely zero reason for him to be playing as our most advanced midfielder. Criminal even

I defer to you that know more than I do. That said we need to score significantly more goals, be more creative on offense, and get significantly better defending set pieces

Why are we so bad on defending set pieces?

Defensive Record:
Arsenal has conceded more goals from corners than any other team in the 2024-25 season. Specifically, they have conceded 7 goals from corners, which translates to a rate of 6.6 goals per 100 corners conceded, making them the worst in the league for this statistic, according to The New York Times.

I thought he was bought to replace Partey and we could get another cam for the left 8 once xhaka left.

Don’t know why we have done what we’ve done in the midfield.

Just feels like we’re going to miss out on what could be the best double pivot in the world with Rice and Zubi. Doesn’t even have to be a true double pivot, can have Rice be the runner and Zubi be the deep playmaker but those two not playing off each other feels like a missed opportunity.

Might be Ode creativity holding us back in that situation, but gotta have some faith he can return to form rather than ramming our heads into a wall. Either way, we can still do something special

I think Kai was supposed to have been that guy, but he just didn’t work out.

The best the team has played offensively in the last few years was the run in during the 23-24 season with Rice/Jorginho/Odegaard

Feels like that can be recreated with Rice/Zubi/Odegaard, I just don’t want Rice playing as the most advanced guy on the left. He should be a late arriver and purely be a box to box guy to maximize his skillset.

Odegaard still drops deep to receive the ball which leaves the front 4 of Martinelli/Rice/Kai/Saka as your highest players. Kai will typically drop in to link play too which leaves Martinelli/Rice/Saka has your 3 highest guys, and that just doesn’t work with LW/RW being touchline wingers. Rice ends up on an Island, so we hold up play, allow the defense to get set up and start the horseshoe passing. Just needs to be a concerted effort to get guys up the field so they can do some interplay and find space.

Passing to one of Rice/Martinelli when they are double marked just isn’t a winning strategy. Saka can and has been able to make something out of nothing, but that can’t be the only play all the time
