Giving up a crap load of shots while not creating any. The Emery way

There was a point in the match where I looked at the stats, and they had 24 shots to Arsenal 9, and 57% possession to 43%.

Clearly something very wrong going on in the midfield.

Any of y'all think Emery doesn't make it through the season?

I would say, "Hey, we are just overreacting. We've only lost one match this season." But, the midfield and defense has been awful. It wouldn't take much for Arsenal to throw up 5-6 shite performances in a row. If the midfield and defense hold their current course, I could see him getting let go.

I'm not a coach but I'd like to see us go to a back 3 until everyone is healthy.

If you insist on playing xhaka then pair him up with willock and you can put Ceballos or ozil infront of those two and behind the two up top.

That will let AMN and kola do their thing and not leaving us too exposed. Willock can be that runner like Ramsey was doing before he got hurt.

If he doesn't make top 4 or win the EL, he's definitely gone.

The problem isn't losing games, or dropping points to teams away from home. It's the way he's been insisting on setting the team up.

It beggars belief that we still can't press. Emery was brought in because of his attention to detail, something which was praised in the press after his hiring. Here are some examples that everyone should read.

All three have notable examples of things he once did that he hasn't been able to implement at Arsenal. When was the last time we won the ball up the field due to a high press? I suppose you could argue that Auba's first goal against Watford came against a press with Kola winning the ball, but looking at the positioning of the CBs, it appears we were already in a medium-block, and Watford seemed to stop thinking a foul would be called, which was punished by a superb finish from Auba.

Regardless, while we have pressed better from the front, we aren't pressing as a midfield unit, as too often there is far too much space between the individual midfield players. What's more confounding is that we have bad spacing offensively too, which wasn't really a feature of Wenger's midfields, though they were defensively retarded.

I'm fine with Emery leaving if he can't implement his vision. We've recycled a whole squad of players since 2016, so some continuity would be nice, but we have to become a modern team defensively. That's the reason Wenger left too. We are a decade behind the top teams, Pool and City, in terms of their pressing systems. The point should be to modernize. If that wasn't the point, we should have just kept Wenger til he died, as at least we would know his teams would have good offensive interplay.

We need to be able to mitigate the chances created. We've just let the other teams have the wings. Not only did Frankfurt have 20+ shots, they had another 30 crosses.

At this point it's down to instruction and how the team is set up. I don't see it changing.

That game could have been 5-5. Just depending on circumstance I see a lot of games where we may crush a team because they are just off the mark, or we get crushed because we are off the mark.

I saw this on reddit and thought it was interesting.

Over that time, Wenger had 24 wins, 6 draws and 13 losses which equals to 78 points, while Emery had 23 wins, 9 draws and 11 losses, which equals to 78 points. There's been no real improvement, and our offensive and defensive stats have gotten worse.

My fear is that Emery will set up his team conservatively, thinking that this is the best way to mitigate shots, when its the fact that Emery's offensive system relies on width we can only get from the fullbacks that is the actual problem.

I gave Emery the benefit of the doubt last year even through the late season collapse. But this team is really talented and he has to depend on Lacazette and Aubameyang to constantly bail us out with their individual brilliance. Wenger would have gotten more out of this team even in his late years. I don't think it will get bad enough with Emery that he will be fired during the season but his contract is up after the season and he will be replaced.

Yea I'm not sure the Sokratis/Luiz partnership is going to work. Chambers had a good game Thursday even though it was at RB. Hopefully he or Holding can play their way into the first 11. Bellerin and Tierney both played 62 mins for the reserves this week. They should be available to start in a couple of weeks.
