Are you Piers Morgan? Longest run of any club to knockouts of the Champions League has to count for something.

Yea UCL qualification means something but I was referring not only to the lack of trophies but also his age. And I'm not totally blaming Arsene for not winning some trophies. I would have to and would like to know who has final word on money spent on incoming and outgoing transfers before I would fire someone. If it is at Arsene's insistence that we don't spend then he has to go. Simple as that. I don't believe this to be case but there isn't any evidence putting this blame on the board or Arsene solely either.

I think you need to go. Look what happened to Liverpool when they got rid of Benitez

Are you insinuating that losing Rafa is the reason LFC are where they are?

Sure it does. Reaching the knockouts is on another level. The club is run like a business, and I for one love it. I would rather UCL knockout rounds to either a Carling Cup or Comminuity Shield, hell even the FA Cup is secondary. EPL or UCL Trophy is all that matters to me.

It is one thing to spend within your means, and another thing to be run like a business. It's hard for me to see how any fan can love their club being run like a business.

Financial responsibility has its merits, but at what cost? Arsenal will never win the league or the CL (neither will Liverpool for that matter) under their current business schemes, and that makes it hard to root for. The modern game has passed Liverpool by, while Emirates Stadium and Arsene's youth setup appear to be the only thing preventing the same from happening to Arsenal.

If arsenals last 5 years didn't have quite do many count or such an odd wage policy we wouldn't be having a discussion about Arsene.

Im firmly in his camp

I'm not sure any manager could have accomplished what Arsene has the past few years for Arsenal. Would love to see him get a few more swings of the bat when our increased revenue comes in. He's only 62. He could have another decade at least if he wanted it.

I've owned businesses thats how. We were a shitty ref from beating Barca in 2011 round of 16 UCL. Arsene is one of the top 10 coaches of any franchise on the planet. And that really can't be argued.

I think with an infusion of 40mil per year starting in 18 months we could.

Right, but professional sports franchises shouldn't exist to turn a profit (like a business) for their owners.

We will disagree on this point. Can't think of another.

Where is that coming from? And are you convinced it will actually be invested into the squad?

I'm not really disagreeing with you actually. That could be the point of them I guess. I just don't know why a fan would love for their owners to profit off of their franchise while investing the bare minimum into the squad?

It's obviously one thing if they were turning a profit and spending within their means, while also investing a significant amount into the squad with the ultimate goal of triumphing over Europe (which I think most Arsenal fans would agree their owners haven't). Then yea, I could love that model.

Our commercial deals are awful. All were frontloaded, long-term deals to help us build the Emirates. In 18mos they end. We're way off the pace of our competitors in that area. All we've ever heard is that will go back into the squad.

Were the current owners in charge in the mid-2000s?

Our strategy hasn't changed under Kroenke. My big concern is that he sells after we realize some of these addition sources of income (in addition to an ever-shrinking stadium debt). Would make a cool 300+ mil. Usmanov as our owner would be disastrous.

Yea Even behind Spuds in shirt sponsorship deals. Has to be one of the worst pieces of business in the league.

Is the stadium paid off yet? Ya'll have made almost £100m/year since 06/07 from matchday revenues. Ya'll have made more in broadcasting revenue than Liverpool in that time as well I believe.

Exactly why an owner running his club like a business scares me. John Henry assured Liverpool supporters that he did not buy the club with the intent of turning a profit. Said that was a horrible reason to buy a club. I fear he's lying.

ETA Wish LFC had City's owners. They're running the club like a dream from what I've read.

Well, few could have projected how ridiculous some of these sponsorship deals have become. And we couldn't have done the Emirates without the deal...definitely sucks arse now though.

Stadium debt is still in the 250mil range to be paid over 20 years. Here's a great read on our finances.

LINK

We also have quite a bit tied up in obligation to the banks. There was a bit of debate at the last Arsenal Supporter's Trust meeting that if Kroenke's company became a guarantor on the debt, it'd free up something like 50 mil.
