Another really late double post.

I do not think Arsenal will get Cesc back, nor do I think they should. It promotes the wrong mentality, IMO.

This phone...

Sagna in L'Equipe: 'Everyone knew Robin was leaving. But Alex? He's 24. He had 3 yrs on contract. I still dont understand. He's a huge loss'

Sagna is asked by L'Equipe if the club have spoken to him about extending his contract: 'No, nobody'

L'Equipe: Were Nasri/Clichy right to leave? Sagna: 'Yes, but we didn't know then.' What's your situation: 'I've 1 yr left at end of season'

Sagna: 'When 2 best players go, you ask questions. Fans come up in street, I understand frustration. Like them I dont understand everything'

Not to mention he'd be on the open market this time around
We have first negotiating rights with Cesc and if he only wants to come to Arsenal then it puts Barca in the same position we were.

quote:

We were linked to every player we picked up before the Manchester United match. We were clearly making moves to fortify our squad
We were linked to everybody this summer that we signed before we signed them. We are linked with about 100 players every summer.

quote:

The talent we sold until Cesc was more than adequately replaced by new signings or young players already on our roster.

That's why we won all those trophies with the always hurt Diaby, Rosicky, and for most of the time RVP. Song before he developed, Denilson, and Walcott who was not as good as he is now. At the back we had two CBs that were talented but that hated each other. Nasri hadn't developed either. Adebayor played when he wanted. Arshavin was a good signing while Cesc was there.

Look there little to no chance that it happens. I think we all realize that. I'm just saying if there is a chance we should go for it. And I mean that about any player that can help us win something.

This isn't very good to see. The club has obviously needs to change the way they handle contracts and contract negotiations. The only positive about this is that it shines a light on Gazidis or Wenger or who ever is responsible for contract negotiations. These contracts that we ignore will continue to bite us in the arse unless something changes.

Sorry, using the word linked was probably not great word choice. We were moving to buy all those players at the time of the ManU match last year. some in more advanced stages than others. You said those buys were all panic buys after our shellacking. That is patently false. Everyone knew we were buying. All the moves we made would have been made if that match hadn't happened. That's not naïve, that's fact. ManU didn't cause those purchases, it showed why we were moving to make those deals.

We were on Mertersecker for a while while nothing happened, Santos a day or two before deadline day, Arteta was a shocker. I'm not saying we weren't interested in these guys before the game. I'm saying that after the 8-2 they were forced too buy. If we would have gotten beat 2-1 that day instead who knows who we would signed. My point is the Club doesn't reinvest enough of the profits into the team. They care about top 4 and thats our goal every year.

Well CB, LB, and MF were all areas we needed to reinforce. CB because Squid and Djourou struggled. LB because we sold Clichy and had no back up. MF because we sold Cesc and Nasri (and also injuries to Wilshere and Diaby, though Wilshere's early prognosis wasn't too severe). This was known before ManU. Sure, they were panic buys, but it's because we left it late. Not at all because of ManU.

The only profits Arsenal really have are from our sales. We're a break even club at the moment. We have reinvested all we can of our profits while keeping some in the bank as a buffer for the potential loss of Champions League income.

Yea because if we use an extra 20-30 million as a one time thing it would send club into bankruptcy. And let me tell you a little secret unless that buffer is around 100 million if miss out on champion's league our club is screwed. We will lose a lot of our better players. The only reason people like Poldoski and Cazorla come here is to play in Champion's league. Look at Liverpool they lost it and they are still struggling to get back. The thing is we are only one or two players from being a contender for the EPL and maybe even Champion's League.

This was known before ManU.
Yet no one was brought in. Everyone knew Cesc and Nasri were gone but the club didn't go out and buy before hand like they did this year. They obviously thought they had enough talent in the team that adding people wasn't a top priority.

Sure, they were panic buys, but it's because we left it late. Not at all because of ManU.

And why would we leave it late? Just for the fun of it? Wenger obviously believed that his squad was at least for the most part were good enough to challenge in the EPL. I'm not saying one or two of those players wouldn't have come no matter the result of the game. But after Arsenal suffers one of the most humiliating defeats in its history then proceeds to buy 4 or 5 players, I would say it had at least a little something to do with it.

Wenger: Bould can make Arsenal's defence the best in the Premier League
I believe him. Nice of Wenger to show Bould some praise. Heaven knows he deserves some. The last couple of years we have had very good individual defenders but now Bould has got them playing as a unit. I mean look what he had done with Jenkinson alone. He was like a deer caught in headlights last season. Now at least defensively he looks assured and has put in decent performances that have surprise many including myself. If we improve even more, which is possible, we will have one the best defenses in the league. I will say keep in mind we haven't quite been tested by the best but we have done the job that we needed to.

An interesting article that goes back to the twitter quote OBUDan provided in an earlier post.
Sagna is right - Baffling Van Persie departure stopped Arsenal becoming potential champions

Sagna didn't say RvP's departure was baffling. Just Song's. with a healthy and fully firing RvP we would probably be title contenders, but his contract situation, injury risk, and the money offered to us was too much to pass. Song is the confusing one, though his loss is more psychological than anything else. The first truly baffling Wenger transfer IMO.

I agree with you on this. The only reason I was alright with us selling Song was because I believed he would be replaced in time for this season. We should have kept him and let him and Diaby rotate. No sense in selling him with him not being in a contract situation. Unless Arsenal wanted to cover the Podolski, Cazorla, and Giroud buys.

If Sagna left I would be sad. Not CR7 sad, but still, sad.

I would be double CR7 sad since his beautiful hair was one of the first things that drew me to Arsenal.

Rumor that Cesc may go on loan to Milan in January. Not that is really Arsenal board news...

Cesc would be a major idiot if he did that. Milan's always wanted him, but his choice to go to Barcelona and leave us in the cold has come back to (rightly) haunt him. He should just stay patient and continue playing for Barca. They will have plenty of games for him to play. The season has barely started.
