All the talk about 2022 but lets look at 2018

Does anyone think Russia can pull this off. They couldn't even do the Winter Olympics.
They only have a few WC ready stadiums with another opening this summer, and one of which is in the furthest east host city. The clubs in these host cities don't want these massive stadiums to meet FIFA attendance requirements.
Fans might be hesitant to travel to Russia for various reasons, esp with their relations with the west getting worse. Their economy is getting worse despite what Putin says brainwashing his people.

Even though I hate them getting a WC and taking up a team slot. If they over look all their laws it can be a success. They are already throwing these stadiums up and they have the hospitality thing down.

will be a lot harder, because unlike the olympics, world cup is spread around cities.
you have more fans wanting to hang out before, during, and after the games, not be stuck in a compund.
If they had issues with terrorist threats when every things under lock and key, in a compound, it could get ugly if spread out.
Of course it could be like SA, where they basically kept the teams in the out skirts, under 24/7 security and armed guards.
