For all of the talk about the U.S. being an underachieving soccer nation, Mexico is even worse. How can you have a football mad country with a population of 120 million and only make it past the round of 16 in the World Cup only two times? And both times were when they hosted the tournament.

I mean, I hate Mexico as much as you do... today was a great day for me.
But it’s stupid to gloat that they went just a little bit further than Egypt when we weren’t playing. Let’s just laugh that they still are a bunch of mental midgets.

That doesn't seem a sufficient explanation. It's has to be a structural problem, as Argentina produces a ton of players from a population 3 times as small.
