I'd ensure our placement in the top 4 before even considering the domestic cup. If we had a 12 point lead on 5th or 4th place, sure, let's go for it. If we have a 2 point lead on 5th and have depth issues, then no, I'm not risking anyone for the FA Cup.
it was a simple question that you can't even answer
now once again top four with a cup or top four with no cup......
Cups are very important to fans, well at least rational thinking fans. Esp a club like Liverpool which prides itself on how many cups it has won.

It's not a simple A+B=C question. If going all out for the FA Cup jeopardizes your bigger goals, then it's an easy decision.
You also haven't answered my question if you thought winning the FA Cup would keep Can in Liverpool.

Yea it is, you can still compete in the fa cup and the top four. Your idea was to completely tank in the competition by putting out a u23 side vs your city rival.

I said trophies, players are happy winning silverware. Obviously the league is gone but if yon don't think a few trophies don't influence a player leaving or staying, then you are out to lunch.
You keep moving the goal post bc you know you are wrong.

Sure you could, but if you lose a player at a position of no depth during a cup match, then it will severely impact your ability to achieve your ultimate goals.

Simple question. Would this year's FA Cup keep Can?
If you're talking about a truly good player, then the quality of the trophy matters more than just getting a trophy.

How would a club the size of Liverpool not have the depth to compete in the FA Cup and go for top 4, to the point you put out an U23 side

we don't know bc you are out of the FA Cup

Well since the fa cup is the 2nd most important trophy in England id say its pretty important.

Already have numerous injuries, poor decisions to not get extra players, etc. We're pretty dam thin at many positions right now.

What a cop out.

after all the money you spent gtfo
at no time would putting out an u23 side vs Everton in a home cup match ever be acceptable

um what, 3rd and for a majority of clubs the second bc they have no shot at the champions league

Not really, the player clearly wants to win stuff, and your club isn't winning stuff. Top 4 isn't a trophy.

What's that got to do with anything? After selling Coutinho, the inability of Henderson, Lallana, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, and Moreno to stay healthy, and loaning out most of our strikers (Origi and Sturridge), we've been pretty thin at most positions.

You trying to tell me the FA means more than Europa when Europa puts you into CL?

down right disrespectful

Well for the fact 3 at most teams even get into Europa id say yea.
like I said for a majority of clubs after the league its the fa cup.

Pretty sure you can get 5 teams into Europa.

Are we talking teams with high aspirations or the typical bottom half of the table?

5th and 6th
league cup winner and fa cup winner. Most years they are already in the top 6. FA Cup runner up gets Europa but not League Cup runner up.

Europa league shouldn't be a priority for any club unless you are totally out of the top 4 race. Spurs in recent years blew it off, United actually gave a shite when it became clear top 4 was gone. Liverpool gave a shite when top 4 was gone.
Top 4 and FA Cup > Europa League if that's how you have to prioritize things

But teams that finish 3rd in their CL group drop down to Europa also.

As soon as you are in it, it becomes a priority until you are safely in the top 3. (Doesn't the winner go straight to the CL group stage?) And even if a non-traditional team gets in it becomes a priority because it at least brings in more money the further you get.

most clubs who drop down don't give a frick esp when in the top four race ala Spurs
winning fa cup along with top 4 is better than europa

4th is still considered a champions league spot
and like I said when top four is out the window then its a priority ala non traditional clubs who get in it from time to time.

clearly the group stage
but finishing 4th means you are in the champions league, no matter how you try and spin it.

So you would rather finish 4th and win the FA than win Europa? That makes no sense to me. If your ultimate goal is to win the league/CL, then starting in the group stage makes both of those much easier.

winning the fa cup and playing a two legged tie >>> group stage automatically
if you can't beat some club from a terrible league to get in the group stages its time for some reevaluation.
playing two extra matches in August is not going to hurt you winning the league.

It absolutely can. Points at the beginning of the season count just as much at the end of the season.
