Very cool. They showed bits and pieces of this at a U.S. pep rally event at the P&L the night before we played against Jamaica in Kansas City.
Lalas spoke a little bit about that team on stage there and used the crowd (probably 2,000 or so showed up to the event) as an example of how far U.S. soccer has come over the last 20 years.

I would like to see ESPN do a 30 for 30 on this. This seems like the time we started to get our shite in order.

A 30 for 30 on this would be awesome. I was only 5 in 1994 so my memory is a little foggy.

I do remember watching matches in Spain, Italy and then, the US, and general comments were ´damn, these guys don´t suck, they know what they´re doing, they may not be the best, but they´re not Australia, or New Zealand, etc....´. Good times.

It mentioned we played England before this cup. I remember seeing Fox Soccer replaying that match before the channel died. 90s kits, old Wembley, and terrible hair.

The key thing for me, was being on the Continent, and all sorts of people remarking how the US was not nearly as bad as they had expected, and had flashes of nous (coupled with a ferret type activity, which all expected).
For me, this was the tipping point. Everybody going into that WC thought the US was a ´WTF, how did they get in?`
ETA Until then, no host nation was what was considered a non footballing nation. This was the first time, and many thought it was because the US was a big, powerful nation, that they got the WC. They expected the US to suck burro balls, big time.

Yeah, it looked to be a real turning point in U.S. soccer. And now the MLS isn't a complete joke anymore either.
Plenty of solid players coming over to The States now.

Read a little bit about Bora Milutinovic and seemed like the right manager for us at the time. I like that he told Lalas to get a haircut.

And that was only 20 years ago. It's been a process but can't deny there's been a whole lot of progress since then in terms of player development and building a domestic fan base.

Hell yeah and he's damn proud of it too. Will still reference it occasionally in interviews.
