ETA: I've also been watching too much Real Madrid over the past few years, so my idea of an appropriate transfer fee could just be fricked at this point.

What system? And he isn't a great defender right now. He's superb going forward which is why he's on the WC squad, but he isn't the defender Gibbs is. Shaw could be a great defender one day but his attacking instincts are so good right now that you just let him play and mask his defensive deficiencies by accounting for them in the formation.

The United style just look at our LB/RB's over the years

a big fallacy in that logic is there is no sure thing,
keep in mind, our physios are not arsenal's physios.

Also, 30million is A TON for him. I'm not overly bothered by it though. By no means am I saying we aren't overpaying. I honestly DGAF at this point.

Yeah, I don't disagree with that. Who is the most expensive LB, anyway? Coentrao?
quote:
yeah you guys make up quite a few of the top transfer fees paid. bale, cr7, modric, illa, pepe, coentrao, xabi, isco, etc.
The Luke Shaw transfer would be Real Madrid-esque. "He exists, so we want him."

Right now he might not be the best LB for our team, but If we can get two solid CB (I know I will be crucified but Smalling and Evans are not world class CBs) then we can have attacking fullbacks. The problem is that Jones is decent at alot of places, but I don't think CB is his best.
Edit to say: After saying all that we need to buy him. We need to focus on stabalizing our back line, being it younger and better, before we move foward up the pitch.

yeah, pretty sure it's coentrao. but benfica transfer fees are always stupid high. (because they know Real and Chelsea will always pay them
)

yeah, and like others pointed out, he isn't a particularly good defender now...

what system would he not fit in? He's a fricking LB...
Posted on 5/22/14 at 3:29 pm to StraightCashHomey21
evra is a much more two way player. barca dealt with defensive issues after signing alba due to having two very heavily attacking wingbacks in their back four. would be interesting to see if the same would happen to ManU.

He is perfect for the United style of play
Posted on 5/22/14 at 3:34 pm to StraightCashHomey21
So, whats your point? We shouldn't buy Shaw? OK...
And Flanno isn't a bad defender, though he can get caught out for pace at times..
edit: but I wouldn't argue that we need an upgrade in that position

You haven't even seen one match yet under LVG... though I don't have any doubts that he will indeed play with a LB..

Wut??
Ive seen him manager more than a few clubs. He was brought in b/c his philosophies are similar to SAF.
Just look how SAF used his LB/RB

I guess I don't understand what this convo is about.
We are overpaying for shaw so... We should feel bad?

To be fair, Portugal is just one giant shop window for third party ownership
