There was a concerted effort across the country to boycott the game, not surprised the ratings were low. Plus the game was boring as frick.

Glad to see my own personal vendetta to not give the big N my ratings paid off.. at least 1.2 of a rating anyways.
ETA: Changed it.. because I forgot we were talking about ratings.. not number of viewers.. oh well. My box represents 1.2 in ratings..

Has nothing to do with the game....it was on cable for the first time not network TV.....everyone knew it would ne the lowest rated game for that fact.

also, I can assure you, if you have a nielsen you have Direct TV or Cable.. they don't give them to you anymore if you don't have one of those. (they actually pay for your service)
ETA: So no, it being on cable has nothing to do with it.. it has to do with people just not wanting to watch it, or boycotting it like I did. (I still watched the game, I just made sure to go somewhere else than where I knew my data would not be collected)

Exactly.

I know for a fact that they are paying for the phone service of one of my friends. He went to VOIP and the Neilsen box wouldn't work anymore, so they called him up and provided him with free phone service.

100% correct.

Did you expect the general populace outside of the southeast to watch with any great concentration? It was a given that this was a regional tv audience when they picked Bama over Okie St. (not debating who should've been the #2 team, answer is obvious now)

yeah.. people really don't understand how the system works. It's honestly one of the most irritating things I have ever studied and I personally hate it 100%. But heck, if you are going to pay for me to be a part of the program, I'll jump on that bandwagon as long as you are around to do it.

Had a family member in the hospital and the hospital didn't have ESPN. Had cable, but no ESPN. I was ready to take her to another hospital, but luckily ESPN3 was streaming with no problems.

I know, it seems like they think every TV in America is being monitored.

Congrats
y'all finally got a good coach and it's paying off.

100% correct.
Add in people like me, just boycotting it, or going to other places to watch it just to make sure the ratings don't show up.. then it's 100% correct. Also me not watching it had nothing to do with the matchup, it actually has to do with me wanting the game to go back to over the air TV.. I went and watched the game with my family, they are awesome Alabama fans, and almost made the blow out a bit more enjoyable.. even though the game got boring after the first quarter..

Well it was the national championship. Kind of a big deal for any football fan, not just those in the Southeast. Espn hyped this thing like it would be the last college football game ever played.

Bama's asking for a re-count.

The cable argument does have some merit. If the game would have been on ABC, it wouldn't have had this low of a rating. Last year's BCSNCG would have had a higher rating as well.
THE ONLY reason this is true, is because I'm 100% sure I'm not the only Nielsen box owner that hates big games like this on Cable.. but as for the "Cable is unaccessible to x,y, z people", once again, it IS accessible to x,y and z people, because ANYONE that has the ratings taken from them, has every station!

Not surprised, honestly believed okie lite would get in with a win over okie for ratings. The nation is hating sec, and didn't want to see sec/sec title game...rematch or not. Add played in NOLA on ESPN, spells disaster from ratings standpoint
