Search Assist says this about the USN
The United States Navy currently has approximately 470 ships in both active service and the reserve fleet, with around 251 of those being actively commissioned. The Navy is also planning to expand its fleet with about 105 new ships in various stages of construction or planning. Wikipedia
Current Ship Inventory of the U.S. Navy
The U.S. Navy has a diverse fleet comprising various types of ships. Below is a summary of the current active inventory:
Total Active Ships
SHIP TYPE NUMBER IN ACTIVE SERVICE
Aircraft Carriers 11
Surface Combatants 115
Amphibious Warfare Ships 31
Mine Warfare Ships 8
Combat Logistics Ships 29
Total Battle-Force Ships 296

Breakdown of Amphibious Warfare Ships
SHIP CLASS NUMBER IN ACTIVE SERVICE
Wasp-Class Amphibious Assault 7
America-Class Amphibious Assault 2

The U.S. Navy remains a dominant maritime force, with a strategic emphasis on maintaining and enhancing its capabilities to meet global challenges.
So it appears the WSJ is incapable of doing an internet search

Boeing definitely needs to advance that date. 2029 is unacceptable. If 30 years ago it took 2 years then there is no reason it should take twice as long.

China is able to build an aircraft carrier in just 5 years (compared to ~8 for US). More importantly, they are capable of building more than 1 at a time, whereas we only have the dockyard capacity to build 1 at a time.
China is also building a shitload of destroyers and other boats, they are on track to have as many vertical launch systems as the Navy does by 2035
