We all know it will likely never happen but why haven’t more candidates run on complete transparency in spending in federal government? A start would be legislation that every spending bill would be reviewed and anything not related to the bills subject would immediately be chaffed from the husk. The end game being every aspect of our government being audited for waste and corruption with a fine toothed comb. I knew this is a pipe dream in policy but as a campaign issue it seems a win regardless of constituents political affiliation.

They better do it in a red area of a red state. Or the dominion machines will make sure they lose.

Because they don't wanna be Lincolned, JFKed, Bobby'd, or have plane problems like Boggs and McDonald, and listless banana republic dictators,etc..

Not everyone gets as lucky as Andrew Jackson.

Your government overlords would run their propaganda scheme calling said person unfit and a racist bigot and 25% of the country would believe them

Trump said he’d drain the swamp and all the obama soy bois in the FBI/CIA/IRS weaponized their federal agencies to stop him.

A dozen new candidates run each year claiming they’ll stop corruption until they get to DC and realize they can fight the machine and be slandered, mocked, ridiculed, and threatened or they get rich playing ball. That’s why the fed gov keeps growing. They cut in the people who are there to stop it and the machine grows in power

I remember when Reagan asked for the Line Item Veto, so he would not have to veto an entire spending bill. Congress lost their minds, now we don’t even have a spending bill or budget, just add ons and continuations

What was the explanation to this then and now? Seems like it was argued it gave to much power to the executive branch?

Because “complete audit of the federal government” is a vague as shite buzz phrase that would literally take an act of Congress to define and order.

Bingo. FBI would either administer a soft takedown or CIA would do something a little harsher.

It would force Congress to actually do its job, and no entity on the planet hates that prospect more than Congress. All 535 of them wouldn’t be able to perpetually run for re-election if they had to make consequential decisions.

No shite. It would be a great thing to campaign on though that would garner support from voters of all political stripes. Perhaps it would lead to other candidates campaigning on similar platforms and lead to a call for greater financial transparency in government. Like i said though… likely. A pipe dream
