Fauci's recommendations were fairly standard for public health officials around the world

The CDC literally wrote the book on epidemiological response protocols.

The whole rest of the world turns to us when they experience an epidemic (well, except maybe the French). When we experience an epidemic, we just throw temper tantrums.

More people have died under Biden and you don’t see anyone saying Biden killed all these people, not one death tracker.

Nothing you said was based in reality. Trump was being blamed for every single death.

So, to address the OP, you're saying Fauci never got any flak? To what could the OP possibly be referring?

Right, the major difference between e.g. Canada and the US was that we had a massively politicized response. In Canada, there were minor differences between the 3 major parties on pandemic response, but generally the bulk of public discussion played out within the 40 yard-lines of public health policy, whereas here we had 1 party doing that and one party that was divided between that and embracing medical populism.

You just couldn't help yourself.
"Listen to the experts!"

"The CDC literally wrote the book" eh? Here's what was written about the CDC:

Hitler just wanted to make Germany a strong country again, so maybe he took it a little extreme at times but he was just trying to do a good job

NO!

The major difference between e.g. Canada and the US was the fact that (due to "trust the CDC experts") at the pandemic outset, we suddenly found ourselves with less functional CV19 tests than the Republic of Ghana.

embracing medical populism

I’m really interested in this, and I hope that scientists, public health officials, nutritionists, MDs, and others will acknowledge the role they’ve played in the erosion of trust in their professions. Just a sampling of what I’m talking about: SSRIs don’t outperform placebos, statins don’t reduce all-cause mortality, prostate cancer is over treated, the mRNA vaccines suck, carbohydrates are driving the obesity epidemic and low-carb diets can cure most T2 diabetics, antibiotics are overused and driving resistant strains, legal opioids have cause untold suffering and grief, benzodiazepines are poisons, the amyloid clearing drugs don’t cure Alzheimer’s, etc. There’s a lot more.

The way to regain trust is to self-examine and to get rid of the paternalism rampant in these fields. If all it takes is a little reading to discover massive frauds in the field, trust will be lacking.

I agree the CDC did a lot of things poorly, but I think it was significantly worsened by the politicization of the pandemic. It's a both/and.

We need more smart, informed people entering the field and contributing to improve problems like those you mention.

The way to regain trust is to tell the truth!

The way to regain trust is to employ the scientific method instead of "scientific consensus" about "settled science."

Dat right dere.

In today's political climate the only credentials that seem to matter are (R) and (D). If R says something, no matter how true, D will reject it saying that R is just trying to suppress minorities. If D says something, no matter how true, R will reject it saying D is just trying to collectivize. We're stuck.
